Boomkat and Pitchfork are for hipsters.
I've never actually been on either website, but someone told me that they were for hipsters, so I shall share this information with you incase it proves useful.

Boomkat don't seem to understand the distance selling regulations in the UK. Or if they do, their £1 'insurance' charge on P&P is a scam.
That said, I've bought some good music from there over the years. Their reviews are a bit of joke though. Some of the crap Dubstep (lots of the junk on the Dub Police label, for example) they gushed over was tragically poor.

i recall they announced steinvord ship date before receiving the records. then when the records got delayed a bit, they repeatedly pushed back the release date two weeks, and a bunch of people got annoyed and thought rephlex was dragging their heels. turns out boomkat should never have put up the date, though. figure they did it just to grab the cash.... that, combined with their reviews (which are a joke, like Ceri said) leads me to believe they're a bit too greedy.

boomkat is intwined with certain labels, distributer and even artists (and they also set themselfs as a sort of publication with "reviews") but they try 2 hide this fact from u. however if u want 2 know who they are just look at there "special announcement emails". they started there own "boomkat edition label" but its a false flag cuz tehre are numberous labels already operated by the ppl who operate boomkat
bandcamp is another evil web site

a good indicator is their top 100's and all the wicked tunes that don't feature, not dissing em tho, they are still v. good.
I always think hating on something is so weak, e.g. like Ice T said,
You're always buyin rap records jammin def beats Then dissin rap artists out in the streets You always say our jams are wack but yours'll be tight But you never been near a studio in your life You see, disrespect is your last resort You're like Howard Cossel you never played this sport But you're always talkin mess bout how it should be done And when we ask to hear your record you never made one

'tis just strong emotion, badly controlled and misdirected -- or trolling. i'm guilty of both
it's also a bit different when you're a for-profit business taking people's cash for a preorder based on a release date you know is probably bullshit.

epic, should all these artists/labels/distributors/shops should stop because they aren't perfect, whether they accept that or not?. inefficiency/mistakes/misinformation/unforseen problems/the effects of 3rd party factors are inevitable, and bound to increase in a 'business' in decline itself, within a global recession at that. Also some holding a certain philosphy that they need not pay for something that can be got for free, or that why should it cost money (I'm not saying those ideas are invalid) but the vast majority are doing their best, not 'taking people's cash'. from the artist to the listener. People's best often aint enough but there is always hope/faith etc. A preorder date is usually made up by the shop or distributor, sometimes the label, sometimes even the artist. And a problem with production, or an icelandic gas cloud can affect that. Messageboards are full of myths and partial truths or falacies. Gotta do the best you can & look on the bright side, it's everyone's duty, but it can be too much hard work.

u have a point about monopolys affecting the mainstream. maybe a record company should not be a publisher, an artist shouldnt be a record company, a label a distributor etc.

i'd still buy from boomkat, but i'd buy from somewhere else first given the option and a comparable price.
you have to understand that i'd heard steinvord on myspace a year or three before, and i was colossally excited about getting my hands on the vinyl. each delay was individually upsetting, and no additional information was provided. felt like a dog someone was dangling a biscuit in front of.... so i sent off some facebook rants about how there needed to be better communication.
i suppose boomkat are entitled to do what the fuck ever, but it's not good biz to handle it the way they did.

apparently the vinyl tracks for steinvord will appear on CD/digital in the future. i believe labels furnish the distributor with sales notes and the product and they take it from there. the distributors must be struggling with people like hmv going down. good to try and sell out of or support vinyl release before "giving it away" digitally. on the other hand you could release on cd before "giving it away" as mp3's (which are of a quite different value, computerbased system of formulation and distrubution etc". anyway you could sod all that and just "give it away", on xmas day for instance. you could even try to do all of the above, and still have more alternatives
i buy whatever i can afford from juno every time they work well

i don't think steinvord release was in the wings till way after the myspace hype was it? has anyone else managed to track down the composer, must have been either very hard or the label was the first the artist wanted to speak to, despite apparent shortcomings. do you suggest they have not bothered releasing it at all or do you appreciate what they could manage? i don't know what steinvord has to do with it, a couple of tracks on that EP i really dig and look forward to it digitally too.

rephlex should hold that shit for ransom. not press it until they get N preorders, where N = 500-2000 or whatev. use kickstarter or some shit
but, once it thresholds, they'd be under even more pressure to deliver in a timely manner and communicate clearly, and that might be beyond their ability

squarepusher did some fantastic stuff, some didn't do anything for me but who cares about that, what is good is the best. start with hello everything, accomplished, very positive and sensitive. ufabulum track 1 and then 5 or 6 till the end is pretty pure too.

jeff mills continues to be jeff mills, mostly too
dj q bert's part in dirt style records/thud rumble
but these ones are far more niche/extreme/particular vibes to access and use, making far less points, or if not making them more subtly, imho.
Underground Resistance always essential, tho u mist ignore the lame trx again. they seem to have paused proceedings, if not stopped, slowed at least. & hardly anyone said anything. They've contributed tons of good energy, perhaps made their point by now, concentrating on wider things, having a private life, good luck 2 them and thanks for the music, which will not stop. yr message recieved and understood.

dillinja was good on valve, till he stopped. recently restarted.
old stuff was proper pop music. totally understandible why drum&bass officianados might not dig it, and they're not wrong. but it's still wicked.
Don't keep too close track of Maurizio but he probably did wicked stuff coz he's into dub. as long as he didnt get jaded etc.

i forgot what exactly my point was going 2 be when i made it this thread
BUT
my point is dont try 2 keep ur finger on the pulse, cuz u will only end up keeping ur finger on a dead pulse when some1's pulse stops (like ummmm idm music), or u will keep ur finger on a thing thats not a pulse at all, its a commercial pacemaker machine like boomkat to support themselfs. instead u gotta move around and keep touching alot of DIFFERENT pulses. only then will u truly be "in touch"

i watched terminator for like the first tine in what seemed a decade
i thought it might be dated n cheesy
but the movie still kicks
amazing graphics to this day ...
skynet was always controlled by humans. evil ones at that who couldn’t be arsed to make the world into a nice place where every living thing
could live a healthy happy life.
Arnold is to play in the next terminator 5 he said recently. cool eh.

Official Soundtrack to this thread.
Freqy; I've been having a hankering for rewatching T1&T2 of late. I was disappointed with the last one; since T2 came out I've been saying they should tell the story of the early days of the Rise of the Machines and the Human Resistance.
Oh and if you're Welsh, "The Taffinator" re-dubbing of Terminator is one of the funniest things in the world (seems to have been taken down by humourless fucks who don't understand/feel they have to comply with UK copyright law, so I can't link to it).
