i don't know but i do think the smart people behind android
should put their heads together and make a website that lets
you 'search' the internet

How mad would that be? As it is I have to rely on
typing in speculative URLS like
www.midisequencerforandroid.com

Also, some should upload pictures & videos of naked women on
specific internet sites.

for basic composing with general midi sounds ~ that's
portable

i could search some more but then most software doesnt do
what it promises and is filled with spyware

apk would be better than having to sign up to google's
spyware store

i decided to put the chap out of his misery + google for him
(this might set a dangerous precedent, but i refuse to live
in fear). here is what i found:

"In parallel, development is going forward on a simple
USB MIDI recorder/player that currently records MIDI from a
USB MIDI interface to a standard MIDI file (Android 3.2+
required). When testing is finalized and the outcome is
positive, this may turn into a full-featured MIDI
sequencer."

translated from nerd to english, that means "we're only just
starting to figure this shit out, give us six months or a
year; buy the ipad if you can't wait that long."

also found this

srsly, if you want to take this serious, buy an ipad.

android will never (ever) have any kind of serious software
written for it as long as there won't be tougher hardware
restrictions and and fewer software updates.

even if a company takes the time to make something like this
it will work on probably 3 phone models, crash and burn your
whole family.

general reports indicate devs have had significant problems
achieving reasonable latency on android (e.g. it lags,
despite plenty of CPU horsepower). figure it'll get better
with ICS and beyond, but it's still pretty nascent at the
moment

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2013-01-02 09:29 [#02446740]

p.s. i think ICS actually stands for "Insane Clown
Smartphone"

i dont need inputs and outputs

just a piece of software that can write 16 channel midi
files
and then play them back with basic general midi sounds
and it should be able to open and save basic midi files so
the files can be copied to PC/atari st later on

piano roll or staves, either would be fine

dead simple really!

what? some things r gonna take a relatively small bit of
fiddling to get it to build for android (ok, depending), as
stuff like milkytracker, sunvox, jasuto etc are evidence of.
Latency is/was probably the biggest gripe with ppl

there is a difference between building an operating system
and building a "realtime" operating system, where you can
get guaranteed time responses. it's not a thing about
getting stuff "running" on android, so much as it being
about the whole android platform resulting in poor audio
latency, while iOS seems to do miles better -- which,
honestly, is quite disappointing.

meanwhile, there is even mature hardware out for the ipad
already, with lots of track-proven software. android will
get there, but it's pure frustration for the moment, as far
as i can tell....

my personal opinion: fuck apple -- itunes is a horrid piece
of shit. android devices act like a usb stick; no bullshit.
i suppose you get grief either way. i'm just going to wait
until this tablet shit is boring old fart tech, all the
problems have been solved.... then pick one up at a flea
market

"android will get there"

well, linux didn't

stop relying on computers to do the whole work for

android will get there because of the hardware. linux would
get there if people were making linux tablets instead of
android tablets. meanwhile, android pretty much is linux,
with more corporate malarky attached.

once audio isn't shit in android, it might "trickle down" to
linux, but we all know how well that worked with economics

only for iphone/ipad

android not currently supported

wonder when i can get this shit for ubuntuphone ?

it really isn't shit - if you use OpenSL/native shit instead
of Java you get the same as you would get out of iOS (albeit
with bigger latency, depending)

that knob thing looks fucking mental
ok now we've got touch screens i want growable hardware
interfaces !

in Android, java is native. All apps run in dalvik,
which is java based. there's no other way around it.

don't really understand why someone like Cyriak ( ledge )
doesn't make a decent apt-get type thing for android so u
can get any commandline thing u like onto it easily

putting audio out thru opensl totally bypasses java - the
java garbage collector won't interrupt/block your audio
callbacks at all. Plus doing any kind of DSP in java is
complete fucking no-no anyway.

it's pretty clear everyone in this thread is talking out of
their behinds, but at least i can google

it's still shit with OpenSL

...and i still say tune back in a year from now; it might be
usable as more than a toy then.

steve -- you want some crazy new controls? look into that
leap motion thing. i'm eagerly awaiting my development unit;
should have it next week or two

really, this stuff is best as a control interface, ya? no
one seriously wants an ipad or galaxy nexus doing all the
DSP work -- they just want multitouch, crazy new interface
widgets, and portability.

as such, if 120ms is the best "touch to sound" latency you
got, then no thx.

dont understand how u can say it's 'shit' just cos of the
latency,
( floops android demo video shows its almost
instantaneous (unless edited?))
and latency doesnt really matter if u'r more into
sequencing anyway, u can still make shit loads of wicked
noise out of your phone
so ner, fuck u all etc

time(no pun)

let me copy+paste my previous post, since i guess you missed
it

"really, this stuff is best as a control interface, ya? no

DSP work -- they just want multitouch, crazy new interface
widgets, and portability."

latency matters when you're doing any sort of music control
surface.

don't believe me? hear for yourself

In another thread I mentioned not to generalized based on a
data set with one point.

Also, prove that's your music. I could have just as easily
linked to that and said it's mine.

I had to look up "tounge":

"How stupid people spell the word "tongue.""

from urban dictionary. I dunno if you are stupid or not,
but I doubt you have an anus.

I think I saw in another thread that you uploaded it for
Michael Paradinus and he said it was "music from last
century."

As if anyone would listen to the person who tried to make
footwork famous.
