Heard any good records recently?

Id Lab from www.brakehorse.com on 2001-03-11 15:03 [#00000900]

I've just been on a fact-finding mission to Rough Trade,
London, and I bought some excellent records:

Team Doyobi's Pushchairs for Grownups mini-album, which is
somewhere between Aphex, Bogdan and Mouse On Mars.

Kid 606's Twirl EP. Just let me give you a track title:
'whereweleftoff-droolstring [ukelele mix by TWERK]'. You
like it already, don't you?

Rawakari's Ikebana - I'd never heard of them, but it looked
cool; and it is. Anyone got any info?

Current 93's I Have A Special Plan For This World - weird
Apocalyptic experimental music / poetry.

Twisted Science's Cold Fusion EP - bass-heavy,
breakbeat-based electronica.

So what good music have you bought recently?

i have pushchairs for grownups, it is really nice, very very
simple. I like

Ross on 2001-03-11 23:34 [#00000911]

The new tortoise cd \'standards\' is very good..as well as
sigur ros\' agaetis byrjun

Id Lab from www.brakehorse.com on 2001-03-12 00:18 [#00000914]

I want both of those, Tortoise and Sigur Ros.
Tefosav? I'll check it out.

I've also been having a huge Audiogalaxy session today, and
now have new tracks by Boredoms, Rothko, Mu-Ziq, Michael
Nyman, Mice Parade, Kraftwerk, and Stars Of The Lid. They're
all great as well, and cost me hardly anything. I also got
my first taste of Hangable Auto Bulb. I agree with everyone,
it's wicked.

Ross on 2001-03-12 01:41 [#00000919]

i saw the video for mu-ziq's 'the fear' and it was very
cool, i also saw the video for autechre's second bad vibel
recently, very awesome! Idlab..definitely get sigur ros, its
a beautiful album..the tortoise one is great too, except
track 9 is absolutely horrible, but everything else is solid

sic from holland on 2001-03-12 18:31 [#00000958]

Id Lab from England (and a broken radio) on 2001-03-13 23:40 [#00001006]

The new Mogwai stuff that Peel and Hobbs are playing is
absolutely gorgeous. That's going on the top of the buy list
as soon as it comes out.

think from lincoln,ne on 2001-03-14 01:09 [#00001011]

ID LAB- did you listen to tefosav? i hsuld have the 4th

tune|FX from york,ON on 2001-03-14 03:58 [#00001017]

Anybody heard the new BoC? (a day out in a beautiful
place...)
I think it is wonderful.

Klynt from San Mateo, California on 2001-03-16 09:42 [#00001080]

There are so many good sounding records out at the moment,
but they all tend to make me go back and re-listen to the
pioneers. There has been certain groups that floored me, and
I think I have decent taste so here's my fav's ......
SIGUR ROS- they're sound is absolutely breathtaking...jus'
classic material.
GORILLAZ- Im diggin the whole "CLINT EASTWOOD" track right
now. Damon Albarn sounds great, and Del's in his rawest form
ever. (check out DELTRON 3030)
ADD N TO X (ADD INSULT TO INJURY)- I love this record, but I
have to admit I loved it before i even heard it, "YOU MUST
CREATE" has to be my ultimate cruising song next to Kool
Keith's "MASTER OF THE GAME".
KEITH JARRETT(COMP.)- amazing piano solo's, highly
recommended for the jazz enthusiast.
JIMI TENOR-(OUT OF NOWHERE) This guy is awesome.
ELASTICA- there were some nice surprises here. Some real
tender moments.
PAN SONIC- (AAALTOPIIRI) latest listen and this is
interesting. im currently diggin these fellows along with
KID 606, BOARDS OF CANADA, AUTECHRE, TORTOISE (STANDARD) has
great sounds, hip hop groups COMPANY FLOW, the ANTI-POP
CONSORTIUM, DEAD PREZ, JILL SCOTT, there are just too many
records that i've gotten a little taste of and haven't
totally taken them in yet.

tune|FX from york,ON on 2001-03-17 07:25 [#00001103]

mr scruff is awesome too

hedtwin from Manchester, England. on 2001-03-17 11:49 [#00001107]

what is Mr. Scruff like? He plays in manchester every month
and if he is good i might go.

Scary Bear on 2001-03-18 12:42 [#00001117]

I actually think that that other track on the Clint Eastwood
single by the Gorrilaz is wicked. Don't know the title...the
"everybody party time" song.

For some reason when I first heard it it reminded me of
being knocked out cold on a concrete pavement after running
into barbed wire in the dark. I was about 8 years old. Weird
that!

Id Lab from Preston, UK on 2001-03-18 17:16 [#00001120]

Think - Yes, I listened to some Tefosav stuff. I already
knew Culvre, but now I know some of his friends - Sktbx,
Cell and so on. Who are your favourites on Tefosav?

That Gorillaz track, you either love it or hate it. I love
it, but I know some people it sends into a violent rage.
Mr Scruff is pretty good; he makes comedy breakbeat /
downbeat stuff. As a DJ, he's OK, but not that interesting.

Does anyone recognise the name 'Jukky'? I have a mystery MP3
that I downloaded ages ago, and it's not tagged. It's just
called 'jukky.mp3', that's all I know. It's quite good.

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-03-18 20:10 [#00001124]

Nowadays, the question should be "What mp3's have you been
downloaded recently?", right?! :-)

think from lincoln,ne on 2001-03-18 22:15 [#00001136]

PHOB---?????id only download songs that an mp3 person does
not have on an album, or some remixes or live stuff that the
"record companies dont like"....but then aagain im old
school (11/4/74) so i thinkt eh artsits should get paid

ID LAB---its hard to say hwo i like on the three soon to be
4 tefosav v/a...they are all wonderful.......im leaning
towards cell, a.e.m. adn the other 30 or
40.........thnak.s..........kant spell....

Torley Wong from Vernon, BC, Canada / WWW.TORLEY.COM on 2001-03-19 02:33 [#00001148]

Mr. Scruff has a real mellow vibe about some of his
tracks... great, sort of jazzy (but not necessarily jazz)
kind of waxy laidback groove. i hesitate to use the term
"trip-hop" here but it might apply, depending on your point
of view. the music vids are great, VERY cute and reminiscent
of old childrens' shows.

out.

i was wondering for awhile what happened to Dr. Alex
Patterson!

oh, in response to Ross, i also liked Mu-ziq's "The Fear"
very much. both the song (since it has vocals in it) and the
video. beautiful, although the beats are interestingly
juxtaposed to jarrrrrr at times.

who wants another James/Cunningham joint venture?

Ross on 2001-03-19 02:38 [#00001149]

Is anyone else looking forward to the new air disc?

think from lincoln,ne on 2001-03-19 03:39 [#00001158]

i cant wait for the new dj keoki, tool, and to see henry
rollins spoken word tour in 7
days...............................thanks.....think
