after beatport in his edm rant he's talking about pioneer
pcm 1000 that he apparently helped develop. anyone got any
links or pics of it? does it really exist?

Isn't it a Pioneer DJM 1000?

on the vid he says it's pcm, with a full blown oscillator, i
think he might be confusing it with isolator, he says they
only made a few, i think he's confused or making it up, need
to get to the bottom of it to put his other comments in
context

I think he's getting things mixed up Aaahahaha! Sorry, I'm
sure they asked him what he thinks of it and what he would
like on a mixer but that's as far as it went.

why would a mixer have an oscillator on it?

i don't know why, but this idea isn't new:

LAZY_TITLE

i used it myself and it was in fact a lot of fun to play
with

got a link to the rant? if he's confusing oscillator and
isolator, having the context would help to determine what he
really means

i recall seeing some other mixer like the one sadist linked.
it was in person, tho, and i don't remember much. was
probably in the store.

You fucking ignorant, non-elitist assholes:

The mixer is the PCM-z r23407 b1.3 9283-R900 series,
specifically the DXI-137 with variable aximon internals
coated in platinum to reduce positronichrome noise.

DUH.

so are we to assume he's done too much charlie or is just
lying or diluded/confused... did he develop the mixer? is it
called what he says it's called? does it even exist? does it
have an oscillator. dub(iou)step!

given how slick he is with isolators, my bet is that he
meant isolators and misspoke.

designing it: probably got to talking with some dude from
pioneer and said "i'd love it if you could ____" and then
they took his advice. or he just thinks they took his
advice.

Maybe he has an oscillator tuned to 440hz for reference so
he can do harmonic mixing, lol...

Why is this considered anything new/special?

I learnt to DJ on a mixer with built in isolators over ten
years ago. It's really basic stuff to mix the tops of one
track with the lows of another, or draw emphasis to one
aspect of a track using isolators.

Maybe the oscillator is for extra bass but it'll try to snap
into tune like a behringer mixer's bpm counter.

The isolator is on the master channel so it effects
everything easily. It still has regular eq on the separate
channels. It's nothing innovative, it's just Derrick being
Derrick, he doesn't drink or do drugs but he finds it hard
to keep his mouth shut.

Ah, I longed for a PMC-37 Vestax for a long time as it
seemed like the dream hybrid of a scratch mixer with three
channels and isolators, so it could be one mixer to do all
styles of DJing on. Instead, I learnt to use the channel 1 &
2 isolators in tandem (and opposite one another) with both
hands so I could cut the bass on the master bus by doing it
at the exact same moment on both decks.

Vlari: Good find, I think that definitively explains
everything. We can probably close the thread now. ;)

i think jivver got it, DJM-1000 looks about the ticket:

djm-1000

Points: 1138 Status: Lurker

no it's not the djm they sold tons of them, hes talking
about one that 500 were made, maybe half of them sold...
check the rant about edm, it's at the start of that, he gave
up in 89 for a reason?

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2012-12-03 18:44 [#02445262]

i found the interview you mean. part about the mixer is right at
the start. he says oscillator, but in a way that could be
isolator if you listen hard enough. google has bupkis. they
don't show the mixer well, but they do show it in the dark:

derrick j. mixer

now click on the djm-1000 link again and do a CSI comparison
of the the lights: there's the stereo pair for output with
the red orb above it, and i can see the three knobs of his
[oscill|iso]lator catching some light off it. in fact, the
red orb turns the isolator on/off, and the whole isolator
section has a faux rackmounted sort of exterior, possibly
leading to the interview lady's "frankenstein" description.
it costs $lots, lots of connectivity, like he said. i think
he meant djm-1000 just like he meant isolator. derrick j.
