Early Autechre sound?

I'm really starting to love the early sound they had. The
cleaner, more melodic style of Incunabla and Amber. Some of
it is a bit dated, but I love the arrangements and
compositions. Obviously, it doesn't look like they'll ever
do it again. So are there any artists that rip off that
sound? I want to hear more of it. I can't really explain the
sound, though, Autechre is so indefinable.

Actually, I've never heard Cavity Job. I'm after those clean
synths and beats that they use in Bike, Kalpol Intro
(BEAUTIFUL synth!), Piezo, you know, when they sounded less
machinistic.

best to approach AE in the order they were made...you then
get some sense of an overall strcuture to their work that
unites the various strands; listening to something like
Confield without any grounding in their work could put you
off AE for good...

I think they always had a secret eye on the dancefloor in
their early tracks & it's that which gives em their appeal i
think; they are certainly easier on the ear than later
AE...but they've def left all that behind for quite some
time now...

AFX is like this as well...best appreciated as ongoing
process...

Imagine the beats of LP5/EP7 combined with the synth-work
from the three first ae albums.

Listen to Eggshell from Incunabula. The synth-strings at the
beginning, under that intro bass sound, are stunning. It
starts with a low note, a subby tone and then sneaks in the
higher layers. It's like classical music from the future ca
1993.

Three first albums refers to Incunabula as the first, Tri
Rep as the third.

I STARTED at Confield, and worked my way back... that was an
adventure. I hated everything I heard, thought they were
overrated... but now I'm convinced they're the greatest
thing since sliced bread. I probably should have started out
at Incunabla or something, Confield ALMOST turned me off
them... it was a dangerous path (now Confield blows me away
twice a day).

I like the newer Autechre better, the more abstract stuff...
but I love their early work, too, and I want to hear more of
that nice synth stlye. Sure as hell aren't going to hear
THAT from those guys ever again.

I can't even name a track from Confield.. I don't listen to
it, yet. It's in my book-shelf for now.

Amber is one of the most perfect albums I've ever heard...
not a bad, or dull moment on the whole thing... I haven't
heard any Autechre beyond LP5, but even some places on LP5 I
find tiring...

Phonem's Hydroelectric is very nice, very much in the style
of Amber, but sunnier and happier. More specifically, it
sounds like Slip, the best song imho on Amber.

I could rip you some Oggs if you'd like.

When I got my first Ae CD, I went on this board, and went
like "it's crap, why the hell is everyone listening to it",
and then... slowly, I began to journey deeper. It's been 2
years since I heard Ae for the first time, and I really got
into Confield and stopped thinking shit about it only a
month ago. Evolve!

But that doesn't mean Amber and Incunabula are 'dated' or
something. Don't tell me you only listen to Confield since
you liked it, I can't imagine such a mutant way of treating
Ae records.

And Cavity Job is dance techno fun, primitive YEARS back
before Incunabula, nothing very special, but it still
contains some Ae soulpiece... Does anyone know what are
those samples there?.. isn't the one on Cavity Job from some
movie about that maniac dentist who mutilated ppl? 'I don't
want you to panic... Just slip back and relax...'
'Aaarhhgh.. ghaaarghaashaRRhh... HREEAHH! GRHAAEHH!!!'

'(intense city noise on background) Everybody on the freeway
just stopped... police had no choice but... but to close the
freeway! ... ...(noise raising) THE MOST AMAZING SIGHT..
EVER VIEWED BY THE HUMAN EYE!(into distortion)'

BoC and Autechre. Although his newer stuff kinda jumped to
glitch.

favourite, his recent work is really good as well(i'm
thinking of lp5 and confield)but i' more concerned with
melodies than with beats so i prefer older stuff, amber is a
great record for example and silverside, with tewe,drane2and
montreal is my fav ae song

I also had Chiastic Slide first. And LOVED it!!! However,
All the other three first albums are absolutely great.
Amber rocks - that Silverside tune kicks me off. It's so
hard to rate these albums - IMHO, only AFX can be set along
with them. Masterpieces forever - they never die or come
outdated.

As for EU - yeah, they're good, although not nearly as
creative/innovative. JFYI: EU is an abbreviation of two
Russian letters: "E" and "i" (written like "U" in Russian).
These are the first letters of the band title: "Elochnye
Igrushki" ("Toys for a Christmas Tree").

I think BOLA SOUP - is the best compliment to Incunabula.

I think EP7 is their best stuff.
