= which I hope means "i decided to learn German by myself"

If I have any problems - let me consult all online members
of this board.

Meine motivation level: strong: Ich live quite near to
German/Polnische border. Neue arbeit possibilities. Visiting
German-speaking languages possibility - sight-seeing etc..

Time span: not specified

Language skills/abilities: gut ear, I learn languages mostly
by remembering how they sound.

Perhaps you could recommend any good and/or free online
German language courses ? I'd be vielen thankful for that.

Danke schön, mein bru

(I assume Germans don't say "my bro" - they say "mein bru"
instead)

You learn words by remembering how they sound? How unusual.

Unless you're talking about sign language i found your
comment funny. You can't learn a language without
knowing/hearing the sounds. How is that a skill or ability?

Come to Marzahn, I'll give you a few lessons and maybe
introduce you to a few locals who could give you some as
well.

well you will be in a world of pain my man.

if you don't have any native western language it will be
impossible to learn speaking german properly. at least i
have never heard a native pole speak german in a way it
wouldn't reveal his identity.

for learning i kind of recommend rosetta stone. if you
really learn languages by just remembering words it is
really the best way and it's a lot of fun.

oh and the topic name should be correctly :

"ich beschloss selbst deutsch zu lernen"

"von mir" would be more like "from me" which doesn't really
make a lot of sense

oh and whoever tells you, never use the word "derb"

if you use twitter, follow some german twitters. regular
bits of real life german to understand. once you're
oriented, start trying to reply to a few

i concur. "internet german" is probably one of the most
dirty ones i have ever seen. dirty in the sense that it is
heavily slanged. i am a native german speaker (munich) but
have huge problems reading forums. all that aggro speach or
even worse - north german is absolutely unreadable for me.

sadist is right, beware of german net-speak.
it is heavily slanged and the local accents mix a lot;
so you might learn many words most germans dont
actually use or dont even know in the area theyre living.
you may not be able to distinguish local slang terms
properly, which may result in you using a potpourri of
local words, which no one would mix into one sentence.
but most importantly: its terribly, terribly faulty
the amount of not only typing but comprehensive errors
is abhorrent :O

nonetheless i dont want to discourage you, obi .-)
surf the german news sites, tagesschau
theres audio and video-clips and its all in "hochdeutsch"
+ maybe give a german book a try!

thanks y'all

from today on i'm switching to tagesschau.de

i've understood a dozen words from the "Norwegen gedenkt der
Terroropfer von Utöya und Oslo" video and "shreck" (??) was
one of them. but i'm hoping for the best.
