the controls are fussy and a little awkward. its definitely old school gaming that takes a while to get used to. set up some comfortable controls and you'll find it quite fluid eventually. i started playing these when i got really bored of sitting thru my own tracks trying to get the levels right and stuff. something about the atmos and puzzle solving helps when going over stuff youve heard too many times. either that or i listen to beyond beliefe podcasts n shet.
tomb raider is hard - save often and go to the walkthroughs for help

if you liked old tr i think you'd enjoy hidden garden ng (third lazy title). more of a classic level layout. lots of underwater stuff and some lovely green levels with risky jumps (obsidian heights is a real cool level)
i really didnt like old tomb raider much tho the levels weren't really environments they were more like block mazes with very flat lighting. tomb raider 3 was far too hard from the playthrus ive watched im glad i could never get past the first few levels.
the custom levels are like what i wanted tr to be back then

sounds good :) downing the hidden garden and reflection of eternity atm. as for old tr, i see what you mean there, of course some of the blocky lvls were still state of the art back then.
but the followups ive played often had so much interference imo, it didnt develop into what i hoped for. all i longed for were cool traps, more nature, traps, that theyd keep up the level of archeological myth stuff. more acrobatics and endless mazed tombs :) instead there seemed to be more (useless) story, more enemies (especially human enemies): too much civilization lvls and action elements.. of course that could have added to a nice movie atmosphere, but i wasnt thrilled for the most part.
