We can't go and check everything all the time. Talking with people there would indeed help. But there's not many opportunities to verify that some of what the press say is wrong when it comes to wars. Takes money (that would you lose in court fees). I'm told the butolin toxin is the most toxic thing to humans and a minute ammout is enough to kill over a billion people. Now should i try the toxin to be sure? Maybe we should trust scientists better than journos as they tend to explain everything. Sure the press manipulate us, i'm not denying that. But the net has become quite a tool. We're more and more at liberty to choose where we get our info. We can be selective. i dunno. |

Also the arab spring and now Syria. So many civilians risking their lives just so the rest of the world can see what is going on. They face death if caught. But every day they post on social sites with pics and videos of what's really going on. Surely you don't think that they tell porkies? I find the bravery amazing and makes me feel like a spoilt wimp. I remember i was watching 'the Cove'. After a while i couldn't take it anymore but i felt i owed it to the dolphins to see the brutal truth instead of stopping half way through and erasing it from my memory. |

people focus on israel v palestine for pretty good reasons. its like a distinctive story of old human conflicts and it plays out in front of the world in a fascinating, frustrating, and alarming way - of course thats going to focus interest. but look there isnt enough attention span for many issues that seriously need addressing. its a lot to ask of people, ykno cos everyones trying to find the time to deal with issues that are basically closer to home and more demanding. i really cant blame myself for not having the passionate investigative scrutiny to correctly comment on all of the astonishing human atrocities the media dosnt face. shit im grateful for what the media does tell me otherwise i just wouldnt have the time to know and im sure we all basically feel the same. its a miracle that any of us find the time to comment on conflicts that are far away in places we dont know anything about. its even more commendable that we actually care. on the other hand i find this whole thing a little irritating. i find the opinions of internet people debating this thing pointless mainly because we indulge the habit of judging the whole thing from a modernised, godless, globalised perspective that dosnt apply to what is happening. not that we shouldnt judge and say they should be more like us, but the fact that we do bars us from really sympathising with either side |
