Is a bunch of horseshit. They really think the best way to free women is to denounce men as sexists or even worst as rapists. Ever tried to post on a feminist blog? Even if you are polite they won't answer you or even worse call you a troll. Now, feminists think women are objectified by men. That means if you look at porn or a naked woman, you treat women as objects. So men are basiccly evil and it would be the best if women would wear burqas if they go outside. Now, this is of course all bullshit and a smokescreen to gain political influence. Simply because objectification happens in everyday life all the time. If you eat at a restaurant you treat the waiter as an object. If you let someone fix your car, you treat the mechanic as an object and not as a person. This is okay, because it helps those people to do their job, and they are obviously content with it. Feminists don't care about these facts, if you bring it up you are getting called a troll or a sexist. What men likes to be called these names? However, i can only conclude that feminists don't give a shit about all these things. It is the best thing to ignore them and do exactly the opposite of what they want you to do. Hello Monoid, I will bite. You seem to be bunching all feminist theorists into one neat bunch. Would you be referring to a particular school of feminism? It's been a while for me, but as far as I can remember there is a large variety of feminist theories and paradigms out there. Liberal feminism, radical feminism, marxist feminism and so on. I'm not trying to engage you in debate here because I don't know much about it, I just want to point that out. |

the thing that really bugs me is attempting to mandate bureaucratic solutions to social problems. in the tech industry, for example, you don't see many women pounding out C++. management announces a "diversity initiative" and they scramble to hire some women, any women. it would be one thing to have patience and seek out women that are really good at the work, but it's usually more like: "MISSION STATEMENT: we will be more diverse by Q4 2012." it usually works out that most of the new hires are be fine, but some are be crap; only got in the door because they were in the right place at the right time with the right wedding tackle. this actually makes it WORSE for women: it damages their credibility, and just re-enforces any latent misogyny kicking around. computer programming is an industry full of sweaty nerds lacking social graces (hello!). most women smell the armpit fumes and avoid the computer lab, but any that want to stay tend to be readily accepted as equals. but if women aren't naturally gravitating towards it, why try to force the situation to avoid being "sexist" ?? i feel similarly about admissions quotas for universities: it should be based purely on merit. |
