I'm a little late to the party but I'm finally getting an R4 card for my DS since I can't wait any longer for someone to hack the DS through the SD slot.
Now I've seen some cool things I want to get...the emulators, QuakeDS, ScummVM, Nitrotracker etc...
What do you guys recommend? Wat is your favourite game/app/emulator thingymajig?

i was using vnds a lot as i love visual novels but didn't want to take my laptop out. then there is a pretty decent media player called moonshell. there are also two apps one for controlling winamp wirelessly as a remote and one for streaming music over wi-fi to your ds. not so hot about emulators as they obviously use only one screen.

I have found other console emulators to be be a bit fiddly because of the aspect ratio of the DS screen.
There is a Mega Drive / Genesis emulator that kinda zooms in on the screen cutting out top-bottom or sides.
Lameboy
Some other emulators.
There are a few emulators for old 8 bit computers that are interesting as they emulate a keyboard on the touch screen with the proper key layout for the computer.
Nice as lots of the old keyboard layouts were different or had special keys that don't quite match up to a PC keyboard.
Anyways, lots of fun to be had just messing around with what is out there.

I still cry about my Amstrad CPC being stolen when our house was broken into years ago.
I have a decent media/game player. It emulates the megadrive beautifully. But Snes and GBA not as well. Turn based RPGS are ok, since the bugginess doesn't interupt gameplay. Mario is a pain to play though.

Haven't dabbled in Minecraft, but have seen some vids of intersting projects made with it.
If you have not tried them out yet, I recommend giving the Castlevania games on the DS a spin.
Also Retro Game Challenge.

Minecraft is amazing fun and very addictive. Played single player for a long time because I couldn't find a decent server without lag. I found a good one with good lag, running a kind of mmo mod with skills added to the bag now I'm obsessed again. Simply put it's lego on steroids, but much much more. Try it. Though you could possibly spend an unhealthy amount of time with it.
Never played Castlevania before (maybe on the gameboy long ago). Tried it recently on the gameplayer but was too buggy.

I just remembered seeing this too.
Haven't tried it, though if it is anything like the PC version of Game Maker, it could be quite fun and easy to learn.
I've run Nitro Tracker a few times. If you have used Fast Tracker II or Protracker you should be at home pretty quickly. There were some nice demo tracks to show you it's capabilities too.

Haha, yeah, don't need any more crack-like digital addictions.
I loved Lego as a kid. And I'm glad you said LEGO and not LEGOS, so I'm guessing you and not an Merican.
LEGGOS is a pasta not a toy you fools : )

DS game maker Wowa.
I've only used and use buzz tracker. Tried Adlib tracker in DOS but it's a bit complicated for me.

The Castlevanias on the Game Boy were quite poor examples of the series.
The GBA and DS versions are where its at.

Works fine. Decent, no lag.
This is fun.
ScummVM works fine, haven't got speech to work yet, if it does, I don't know.
Dscraft is not so good, controls aren't smooth enough to build fast.
Amstrad emulator is cool too, although some games don't work well.
Hooray.
