it could even be a fake based on previous sample released.

leaked,
and now i love the album,
so dunno...

just saying

The second clip is a total mindfuck, when the drum'n'bass
beat comes in after that cheesy breakdown... just wow. Dark
Steering is cool too, specially the acid bits and the racing
motor engine sounds really great in a musical context.

it sounds like something aphex would make if he were to make
a squarepusher type track.

This bass in this track sounds very Tuss.

It has been discussed that all the preview Squarepusher
tracks have always been the least exciting ones on the
entire album which balances out again after a while since
the rest is so good.

No judgement yet, the youtubes are awesome, i want to hear
this album. Pronto.

the new album is great.
i personally do not really enjoy tracks 2-5 inclusive but i
love the first track and 6-10. that's 34 mins of total
wickedness which is good enough for me. wonder why he went
with 2-5?

my only 'big' objection is track 2 (unreal square), which i
don't get whatsoever... dunno what's up with that one. track
3 sounds like a shobaleader track, it's alright when you get
used to it, very japanese sounding. track 4 is great i
think, track 5 is pretty alright too... sounds like an
analogue synth track from a 70s movie soundtrack. not
brilliant, maybe, but alright.

not that into the compression either, but that's besides the
songwriting really.

haha this is great. for the past 10 years every time a new
squarepusher, autechre or aphex twin album is announced,
same questions and comments are being made.

is it fake is it real it's crap it's great..always ends up
being great though which is lovely as much as you guys are :
)

New single and video looks and sounds amazing, best single
from him since the late 90s I think. claustrophobic,
minimal, abstract, hyper-energetic. Definitely picking up
the album. I appreciate the ep tradition too, it's usually a
nice tangent off the record.

Assuming/hoping for the option to buy the digital files
without also buying a tshirt i'll never wear

offline IJO on 2012-04-13 10:32 [#02432927]

But the album isn't released yet.. and there's no samples
nowhere on the web, or i'm just not finding them... so far
the only track and video i've heard is Dark Steering.
Honestly i don't find it that much interesting... to me it
sounds too digital, too mainstream.. I'd like to hear the
rest of the album to be certain what it's all about. But i
still much prefer his stuff from 96 era, where it was done
purely analog with minimalistic setup like 2mb akai sampler
and a tape. sounded organic and had a more natural feeling
to it, his melodies were more listenable than now..

just my opinion.

There aren't any other samples other than distorted
recordings of the live sets.

Bloody awful... remember when he got 0 out of 10 in a review
for selection sixteen in the nme review? Yes who cares about
magazine scores but squarepusher obviously did coz it was a
brutal review and Tom went out and bought thousands of
pounds of new equipment then made Go Plastic.

Squarepusher needs CRITICISM
He's living in a bubble where he believes the guff that
fanboys spout about him
He loves himself way too much - more than is healthy for
anyone
And his music sucks because of all the yes men around him

Dark steering is a return to classic sp, imo. Sounds
promising. If the rest of the album is like that, I'll
definitely pick it up.

5 periods to squarepusher's career

1. dull distorted acid crot ep
2. absolutely mad drum and bass, spymania stuff
3. rephlex/warp signing, shit gets real until selection
sixteen
4. buys completely new hardware, latest DSP technology and
pushes it far until last two shitty albums
5. ? still waiting

someone buy him analord
then he can mix analord with 2 and 3 and 4 to make best
music ever made instead of this substandard shite

i think its more his periodical return to 'classic' sp
straight electronics he does from time to time, amongst his
more 'experimental / thematic' albums...

(feed me) > go plastic > hello everything > new one
vs
jazzy things > ultravisitor > just a souvenir

thats an imperfect theory, i know, just how i feel it...
anyway, for me sp passed from weird irregular albums with
one or two mindblowing perfect tunes each to more solid
albums as a whole. i hope this will be an amazing one again,
after the shobashit thing and the bass album...

taste.
