nice music: )

I believe Ben Burt is a genius. he could have settled with a
half decent bleep, tweet, squeak robot sound and got away
with it and still people would have wowed R2 and star wars.
But he must have sat at the arp 2600 for weeks and weeks
harvesting samples to bring R2D2 to life. he knew to
persevere until R2 sounded real. Those sounds are not easy
to duplicate on an arp2600. i've managed a few that sound
quite alike, but i had to sit for ages to get them and they
came be accident and its only because I know that machine
can produce sounds them that i tried for so long. lol . r2's
sounds are as emotional as any human or animal sound he
sings his feelings, he is so awesome, i love R2d2 :.)

neat factoid: the "WOOOAAAH" noise artoo makes really is
just burt screaming pitched up.

i've also got a whole book on the sounds of star wars by
burt, it really was brilliantly cutting edge the stuff those
guys were doing in terms of sound design. that kind of
attention to detail wasn't matched until transformers imo
(which, while a crappy film, had some mindblowing sound
design going into it).

it even comes with a sound board with lossless audio and a
headphone jack. I really need to pull it out and sample it
one of these days: the sounds of star wars

i've got a wired-remote controlled artoo that sits outside
my bedroom door, and i have the remote leading into my room.
every now and then i scare my roommates in the middle of the
night by making artoo yell at them from inside my room. good
fun!

my gf got me an r2d2 pepper shaker for xmas as well. yeah,
im kind of obsessed :)

I know the sound you mean, when the jawas shoot R2 with a
stun gun. :P

wow lossless auido in a book lol. cool.

i havent seen transformers, but put it that way ,it shall
have to be watched.

I was thinking today how, not only Ben Burt, but all those
genius artists all came together for star wars , john
williams too, all the model makers who do not get enough
credit. So many people, All the wonderful artistry lived
together as one. its kinda like a miracle to me. : )

on that amazon link, there is a video explaining the book,
awesome .

it also has one of my favorite sounds in that video ,that
was removed from later starwars edits, a creature in the
bar. @ 1.37secs. My original star-wars vhs which was stolen
years ago had that sound, and this is the first time ive
heard it for probably 20 years.

absolutely right ! : ) i got this a month ago or so, lol,
i was going crazy after watching the special editions. some
of the additional stuff is o.k, but by god there is some
real bad distractions in the re-makes. I just cant watch
em

i only watch these dvds now. but there are still missing a
few awesome sounds off of these.

There is one sound where chewy fires his large gun in the
cell block inside the death star it went like this:

rRrrhhisSSSSHiiOOoowwwww . but they took it out.

also the storm troopers used to say

"CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS !!"

just before they say:

"open the blast doors ,open the blast doors ."

I think there have been a fair few remixes of the audio,
some times they forget to bring a fader up. or decide not to
.
