Hi guys. Please enjoy this lofi tape tech mix of my own material, all of it made from and inspired by survival horror games. Most tracks are made from youtube playthrus of games including Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Project Zero/Fatal Frame and many other classics from the psx/ps2 era.
This has been set to HARD difficulty so the beats are not friendly. This shit contains explicit violence and gore so your ears may not be able to survive when listened to on headphones. Save a space in your inventory next to your green herbs and shotgun and prepare for surviving the future indoors.

thanks a lot guys
pretty much everything was made in reason, recorded to tape and edited together in reaper, no live mixing or anything. these are all pretty rough tape tracks just sewn together with lots of layers.
The idea of the thing is how the century we've just entered is all about indoor culture. survival horror games are about triumph as an individual/control over your destiny in a virtual reality that is trying to kill and terrify you. computer gaming of this variety that became huge with the playstations golden era was an exercise in a strange new kind of isolated escapism, as if we didnt like to be in real life anymore. in real life theres something even scarier waiting outside our cosy computer caves, something worse than the fetishistically detailed terrors we create in our digital dream worlds. i dont know what it is yet. so maybe its good to have a resident evil attitude to all this where youve got all your weapons and ammo/first aid spray ready to protect yourself before you open the next door (which is why i got lots of door samples from the games in there come to think of it). or maybe do it like silent hill 2 and jump down into the abyss to face true darkness or even hell itself. will you collect enough health drinks or find enough clues to escape the dead streets and haunted buildings, crawling with infected mutants and littered with the bodies of those who couldnt survive. you are 1% in a world of monsters/haters. get your guns and protect reality; stay alive. this is maybe the way our pessimistic urban super world is feeling
so thats what made me want to make this. really its just made from sounds that i liked from scary games that i've been remembering n stuff. i like the nostalgia which is partly why i was interested in recording the sounds from youtube videos of the games. its really just an experiment

"playstations golden era was an exercise in a strange new kind of isolated escapism, as if we didnt like to be in real life anymore."
Japanese artists always seem to explore and "meditate" on the concept of spatiality and and its connection with the physicality of the body. Japanese horror always obsesses with bodily movements. The camera often remains fixed in films, no matter what genre, and all traditional houses are square shaped (tatami rooms, zen gardens, etc).
Resident Evil's (the first games had static camera, as well) zombies and Silent Hill's deformed monsters, and the designs of the games with their small corridors (j-rpgs are full of corridors) seems to just an "extension" of a japanese mentality, at least in its artistic expressions.
Japan loves their squares.

very interesting. i feel like i tried to get a sense of 'squareness' in these tracks. that feeling you get in each room in resi evil is the kind of squareness i mean. ju on - what creeps me out about that film is all those square angles in the house, theyre just sort of oppressive somehow.
