dont knock fruity I have been using it since version 2 it's
always been more powerful and flexible than anyone gave it
credit for and now it's a complete studio

but one thing to note is that using open source is not going
to remedy your soundcard issues...in fact they might
exarcebate them. especially the VST's can be unpredictable
and resource hungry

You probably want to check out Supercollider. You need to
know or learn programming basics though.

programming now but I do plan to learn basics because of
some studies I am doing on Turing.
