Is anyone going to this concert? Unfortunately, London's an ocean away from where I live and I won't be making it..
Has anyone had the chance to see Coil perform on their current tour?

Ive been hearing lots about Coil here. What kind of music does he / she / they do? Are they IDM-ish *shudders* or what? Coil sounds to be cool.

Coil is unlike anything else. I love, love, love Coil. Some of it is pure instrumental, some stuff is industrial-like, some is just strange.
How to Destroy Angels is one of the best ambient records ever, but I also love their vocal/industrial stuff!

Coil is, without a doubt, my favorite 'musical entity'. They slip effortlessly from majestic classical compositions to gastric synthesizer melodies to minimal swan songs etc. I could fill up a whole page with adjectives describing their music.. You'd probably be better off just listening to some of it for yourself.
If you use any sort of mp3 sharing program(Audiogalaxy etc.) I would recommend downloading the following songs(in no particular order):
Paranoid Inlay (From Musick to Play in the Dark Vol.II) Inkling (From Stolen and Contaminated Songs) Refusal to Leave the Land (From Black Light District) Higher Beings Command (From Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil)
The Sea Priestess (From Astral Disaster) Teenage Lightning (from Love's Secret Domain) Slur (From Horse Rotorvator)
John Balance had also mentioned something a while back about releasing some of Richard James's piano work on their Eskaton label.
Goto http://www.brainwashed.com/coil for more information, discography, interviews, etc..

I quite like it though it's among their older material(1985).
I think all the proceeds from that record were donated to an AIDS charity fund of some sort.

('Tainted Love' that is). That record also includes the song 'Panic' which was dedicated to the satyr demigod Pan. I heard they created the whole thing in the dark(which would explain why it's composition is a tad sloppy).
From what I've heard, I think that most people on this message board would probably be most familiar with them through their nine inch nails involvement(Fixed, Closer, Further Down the Spiral). Supposedly they're recording an album for Nothing, tentatively titled 'Backwards', for release later this year. Trent Reznor can actually be seen modeling a Coil shirt in the news section at the nin website.

that's cool... it would be cool if Panic were a cover of the Smiths song of the same title.

I wouldn't recommend it as a first impression. The Fairlights and samplers they used on that song were all cutting edge at the time but it retrospect I'm sure it would sound rather cheesy to most ears.

I just heard their latest release 'Remote Viewer'. They seem to have someone playing the Breton Pipes on one of the songs. Very beautiful and, again, completely different than anything else they've ever done before.
Look for Coil - Remote Viewer 1 on whatever program it is you use.
