Apparently eight times the surface of the earth.
Anyone tried this?

interesting review, especially the bit about logic blocks. Now I understand the buzz about it. I might try it but I don't have much time for games these days

I have been playing this game for a couple months now, it's awesome!
The single player survival mode kept me interested for a while, but once I got onto a multiplayer server with some friends it became much more entertaining.
Highly recommend putting the $15 or whatever it is now for it, development is starting to speed up and there is a lot of content to come.
Recently added were music blocks, which are a bit laggy/glitchy and limited, but you can do some awesome shit with them as-is.
A simple musical path
An automated music machine
The developers are trying to get an official modding API out for the game so that the community can add content to the game more easily, and even without it there has been some interesting shit done already.
Graphics modifications
A zelda like gameplay mod
Multiplayer is interesting because of the tons of different ways you can play the game. Some people build platforming courses for jumping challenges, some build themed towns and roleplay, there are survival servers where people struggle so hard just to make it through the night (Street boys!)
There are also no-rules servers where you can live as a bandit and tear shit up, fucking with people's shit or placing a sign with some hurtful comments in their "hidden" treasure vault before stealing all of their diamonds and placing a trap pressure plate which triggers a hidden music machine to play "Pop goes the weasel," and finishes with a bang detonating their entire fucking base.
Or you could build a little farm in the country side, grow wheat, flowers, and sugar cane. Get milk from cows and eggs from chickens, and then bake a cake. :3

This game is immense fun. Played it for the first time this weekend with a friend. We literally played non-stop. So much fun, so much great potential. Screw the graphic mods, I love the pixelated look.
Apparently some people are getting bad lag playing over the internet, but LAN is no problem.
Started playing single player now. It's a lot more difficult this 'survival' thing. Love those creepers. They act just like triffids.
I won't rest until I've built everything and more.

I definitely agree with you on the graphics mods/texture packs. I use the default textures with no mods or anything, and I love the pixellated retro charm.
As far as lag, I find the game tends to run much smoother for me on LAN/internet than it does when playing single player.
Something worth noting, if you hadn't figured it out yet, is that if you make a furnace (make a square of 8 cobblestone in the furnace) you can burn tree trunks in both squares of it to make charcoal.
If you craft charcoal on top of sticks you can make torches, which is a lot faster than having to search for coal if you do not see any readily availlable on exposed rock faces.
Charcoal and coal cannot be stacked together, but function the same.
Also the developer just got back from a two week vacation so hopefully development will start to speed up again in the next few weeks! He was on a livestream last friday giving an interview, and mentioned quite a few things they are going to get to work on trying to implement.
For anyone who sees the videos I posted, or the stuff Aphex has mentioned and still thinks:
"This looks like lego on sega genesis, it is super gay, and there is no way I would enjoy this..."
I personally thought that myself, but you really need to try this yourself before you "get" what the draw is. Seems like everybody finds a little something different about the game to enjoy, and with more features coming out the emergent gameplay is only starting to bloom.

Cool charcoal tip. You can never have enough torches.
Before when I saw videos or read about it I wasn't too sure about it either. Half an hour in though I knew it was a gem. Wish I had bought it when the lifetime of updates offer was still on.

Cortical, ever tried a game called Noctis?
Noctis (Latin for "night") is an open source computer space flight simulator featuring first-person visual exploration of an imaginary galaxy. The player is manifested in Noctis as a physical intelligent being in charge of a fantastic spacecraft called a Stardrifter, capable of instantaneous interstellar travel. This allows travelling between stars, refuelling the Stardrifter from Lithium ion-ejecting stars, approaching planets in star systems and their moons, and even landing where it is physically possible. Many planets feature atmospheres and weather effects. Some harbour plants and animals, or even mysterious ruins. No goal or measure of success is imposed by the game: it simply allows to catalogue and annotate the player's discoveries in a common database of stellar bodies called the GUIDE, which is to be synchronised over the author's Internet server. The player can explore the Stardrifter and even walk on its roof.
It contains over 78 billion stars, most of which host many planets and moons orbiting them.

Noctis: Haven't played it before, but have heard a lot of good things. Doesn't seem like the kinda thing I would be into though, however I said the same about minecraft.
Amnesia: Really good, just make sure you play it in a dark room with the speakers turned up!

How to survive the first night
Also, there was a pretty significant update released today, full list of changes here.
Most notable: there have been some big optimizations and the game seems to run much more smoothly now, especially on low-end machines.
Also, beds!

I played it intensively for a couple weeks but got bored without a good multiplayer server to play on.
Made a video of my water elevator
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5bef_JDecI note: the sound is a little loud, turn it down
i don't know about '8 times the size of the earth' from what i've heard it's not got a limit to the size but even if it is limited each time you start a game it's a new world so it's virtually unlimited in that respect.

I like to set the difficulty to 'peaceful' and just potter around exploring. I never get any further than building a smelter and rudimentary houses before I decide to spawn a new world.
It's good shit but it completely rapes my laptops battery.

You have to make a portal. Combining water and lava and then using a lighter on it or something. Haven't done it yet. Taking things slow. Setting up a nice perimeter, building an air garden, finding and making good mining sites.
My friend and I dug quite deep and found a "dungeon" where there is a spawning point. My friend made a nifty trap which captures and drowns the skeletons, effectively creating a nice chamber that farms bones and arrows.
Fucking good game.
