hey folks, I've just finished a 15-minute track which I
think is definitely my best yet, melody-wise and I'm upping
it in 3 parts.
Part one is already up.
The website incorrectly indicates that part 2 is as well,
but it ain't.
They'll be both up later tonight though.

Till then please let me know what you think of the first
part.

this is where it is:
http://homepage.mac.com/phatbert

Cheers

I listened to part one and it's pretty good! After 1:45
when the guitar comes in, and it starts to get really
interesting at 4:00. The only thing i don't like is the
drums - they sound kind of weak.

Alright part 2 is now up.

Part 3 will be available within the next 15 minutes. It is
by far my favourite part but check out part 2 anyway :-)

woops the site still said that part 3 wasn't available. That
has now been corrected.

xlr:
when you say the drums sound weak, do you mean they haven't
got enough "oomph" as in the production isn't so great or do
you just not like the beat?

i like the drilling beats (which sequencer or whatever d'you
use ? any hardware) on 3minutes by part 2. good work

Points: 1618 Status: Lurker

No hardware (yet).
I use Reason and those drilling beats are a loop spliced up
in Reason, changing the order of certain splices to keep it
interesting.
There's also a drum machine and two splices from another
loop though. Lots going on after 3mins.

hey i listened to part one - apart from some of the
percussion being a bit overbearing i liked it - what patches
are you using?

sorry I'm not 100% up with the lingo in this music making
game.

What precisely do you mean by "patches"?
There are no standard loops used in the track. Everything I
used I arranged/messed about with first.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2002-04-11 18:37 [#00168105]
Points: 24578 Status: Lurker

a patch is just the instrument - you have a "bank" of
sounds, maybe a theme, like the "symphony" soundfont i have
- and that bank contains patches, the individual sounds
themselves - like my "symphony" soundfont has patches such
as "flute", "4th symphony", "chamber" &tc - i just thought
your patches could be upgraded! unfortunately, the website i
got most of my patches from *amazing site* seems to have
disappeared!!

offline Phatbert 000 from Augsburg (Germany) on 2002-04-11 18:45 [#00168120]
Points: 1618 Status: Lurker

they're Reason internal.
I can't wait for Reason 2.0
I think those patches are gonna be great.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2002-04-11 18:53 [#00168137]
Points: 24578 Status: Lurker

yeah but then you're just gonna have the same patches as
everyone else - search the net for new ones - or get a
soundfont creator/editor - Unity DS-1 is ok for basic
manipulation of an existing soundfont.

offline Phatbert 000 from Augsburg (Germany) on 2002-04-11 18:56 [#00168143]

Unity DS-1, is that available for Mac?

no idea hombre - never been near a MAc except in mCdonald's,
and that was shit! ;) just do some searches for soundfonts
&tc - they're easy to get for free -- i may upload mine next
week from my ma's cable connected computer! but they are in
france and i can't get into their aboDe!!!
