Fans wishing for a new Elder Scrolls game will get their
wish on 11.11.11! At last week's SPIKE Video game Awards
show, Bethesda Game Studios' Game Director, Todd Howard,
lifted the curtain on their latest game, The Elder Scrolls
V: Skyrim.

Developed by Bethesda Game Studios under the direction of
Todd Howard, Skyrim will be released on Xbox, PlayStation 3,
and Games for Windows worldwide on November 11, 2011.
Details on the game will be revealed in our exclusive cover
story in Game Informer's February issue, which ships to
subscribers in early January 2011.

"It's exciting finally to announce the game," said Todd
Howard, Game Director on Skyrim. "We've been working for
many years on Skyrim and the technology behind it. A new
Elder Scrolls game has been a long time coming, and we can't
wait to show it off."

For more on Skyrim, visit ElderScrolls.com and The Elder
Council, the new home of The Elder Scrolls on Facebook.

yay !

I've missed out on the whole Elder Scroll series, but I've
heard alot of good stuff about Oblivion. Should I just go
and buy it?

No, I advice you to buy Morrowind, plus all official
additions plus browse morrowind forums/sites for all the
cool enhancements. And steer away from Oblivion imo.

Morrowind is good story and cool gameplay and/but shit
graphics (without fan-made plugins/mods/enhancement) and
Oblivion is cool graphics plus shit gameplay, compared to
Morrowind - but that's only what I've heard, I haven't
played Oblivion - enhanced Morrowind is enough to me :>

Okay, thanks. Hey, shitty graphics has never been a problem
for me. :D

I'm trying to find all these old golden nuggets that the new
generation of gamers don't care about. It's always these
rubbish discussions about graphics, or PS3 vs 360. I've
found a game called Anachronox, but I haven't installed
it yet.

if you're not familiar with rpgs i would play oblivion first
as its a bit more accessible. morrowind is awesome but the
combat system was woeful at best. You'll easily get around
200 hours of play out of each.

Anachronox is a bit dated, but its worth giving a go. Its
got an interesting and well acted script and is the only
game I've played (excluding early lucas arts games) that has
actually made me properly laugh. iirc its a bit buggy but
worth putting up with.

I liked oblivion a lot and really tried to get into
Morrowind, but the combat was just terrible. It instantly
breaks the suspension of disbelief. It's like playing a game
from the times we had scaled sprites instead of 3d models
for enemies.
Looking forward to the new one.

fuck these modern 3d rpgs, you semi-retarded twats.

baldur's gate 2 & planescape: torment is where it's at.

they're based on d&d rules which have been developed and
perfected for a couple of decades.

why even TRY to develop your own rules from the ground up.
it'll only appeal to the aforementioned semi-retarded
console crowd anyway.

i haven't played a single 3d rpg which is anywhere near the
quality of these two titles in terms of balance.

for instance, it seems like the leveling system and
all-round rules of modern 3d rpgs are based on a couple of
hours of brainstorming.

here's how i picture one of these meetings:

bob: "okay, we've got to have strength as as skill."
nancy: "yeah, but what about vitality?"
bob: "sure, stick that in the game, too."
nancy: "what about charisma?"
bob: "shut the fuck up, nancy. you're fired"

So 400 hours then, if I play them both... I remember playing
Final Fantasy VI for about 80 hours. Thought it was the
biggest game ever (back then).

I've only played Planescape: Torment to the computer, as far
as rpgs go. One a side note I really like the Thief series -
Thief 2 in particular. I thought I'd never get it to work on
a multi-core system, but hey, lucky me.

I think I'll begin with Oblivion, then. Thanks!

I might get it, just because I find well done
procedurally-generated worlds beautiful as things in
themselves.

Since my last post in this thread, I got it as a birthday
present. It seems okay, but I just can't get into it. I've
spent more time watching youtube videos of people playing it
[particularly Walken] than I have played it myself.
