hey, music is serious business. i've boycotted Eno over his latest atrocity against vinyl listeners (only offering a vinyl version of the album at a ridiculous price of £60), and if Warp try any funny stuff with the next releases for Aphex / Boards of Canada / autechre i'll be boycotting those too. if you really are so very new to eBay that you didn't realise that such a ridiculous asking price would be lauded amongst many people as 'taking the piss', here are some honestly helpful tips: 1. set a low starting bid - this will garner interest from people and encourage bidders. starting at €1 is too low, set it to something that a lot of people would consider an absolute bargain, like maybe setting the starting bid at €30. 2. if you have an idea of a rough figure you'd like to get for the item, set a reserve price. this way, if bidders do not meet what you think is a reasonable price, then you are not obligated to sell. of course, if you set a reserve of €3000, then you're not really going to get very far. fact of the matter is, you either got this record direct from Rephlex (in which case you paid €0 for it), or you bought it from someone else (and there's no way in hell that i'm going to believe you paid anything more than €500 for that). €3000 for it is just...not happening. |

thank you for the tips, oscillik. my real situation is that im in a critical economic situation and i dont really know if selling it or not. as you can imagine, its very special for an aphex lover to own this album and i would be very sad to sell it. the only compensation would be to get money enough to pay the rent (and maybe buy a new record player as my old one is broken), but i dont know, i guess i could get other ways to get money... |

i know how it is to be in a bad financial situation. i've sold all of my music hardware at a great loss compared to what i paid for the items (303, 606, 808, 909...they all went for way below what i paid). invariably, with music hardware and with vinyl it's a case of 'what the buyer is willing to pay' that determines the inherent value of anything. for example, i'm sure a lot of people would say that i was crazy to spend £1000 on the 808 i had (extremely awesome cosmetic condition, with Groove Electronics MIDI retrofit). i personally was ok with spending that much. what i wasn't ok with was having to let it go as a job lot with the 303 and 909 for £2000. but i needed the money. same with vinyl. i've spent, what would be considered by some, as a ludicrous amount of money on records, but value is subjective with such things. although there are some pretty universal expectations. if you have something of great value, and you most certainly do, the worst thing you could do is alienate your prospective buyers by asking such a high price. like i said, if you play it smart you could actually entice a lot of interest in the item simply by using a fairly conservative starting bid. you'll get people thinking "AB5 for €30? this guy mustn't know what he's got hold of! this is a bargain!" and you'll soon get many watchers. be warned though - you may have to relist a few times, inevitably you get people watching an item but they forget to bid. |
