Good grief, will this _ever_ see the light of day?

I see Martin from tBD has heard it, so it does exist (in
some form). But it seems that Plaid are also no longer
signed to Warp. Mysterious, very mysterious.

BoC. Even more odd.

Battles, Grizzy Bear and Maximo Park. That's where Warp are
at these days :S

if scintilli was released when it was finished, we'd be
listening to their new new album by now. i'd love them to
release scintilli, but they might as well call it "from the
archives".
seriously: i don't see why they haven't released it as a
digital only from their own page yet. must have something to
do with contracts and all, but i do hope they make the right
choice and do the radiohead.

Ken is the talented one

Ken is talented there is no denying this, but what an utter
ignorant statement. Especially considering the fact that
besides Plaid - Ed and Andy were involved in Balil, Atypic,
Close, Up, Over, and Tura.

I was only messing with your head, dont loose it.

I think Plaid are big enough to get on without warp. I think
Im kinda glad about this. Warp are being lil shits lately.

Hard to tell with people on this forum over the years. For
the longest time Ed, Andy, and Ken were marginalized on here
until the "scene" died out.

revp: LOL...wut?

Ken is talented, but a freak. According to him, Boards of
Canada does not have any relevance after 911.
He is the one who talks about Plaid not being signed to
Warp, btw.

is anyone even signed anymore? doesnt it mean to have a
certain album contract like for 4 albums? i guess warp
doesnt do those so they can reject any album from any of
their artists?

What do you not understand? As for Ken...I never spoke to
him personally that I know of. I have read some of his
stuff on TBD forum and can kind of guess what kind of person
he is.

I never really gave it too much thought. I don't follow him
with some of his parallels to the world and music, but I
think I myself would agree with a lot of his opinions on how
the world is.

And it was Ken that mentioned it first, but he had heard
that from Martin (who I suspect is the one behind their
twitter account).

And a freak? Come on, from stuff you read on a forum??

Q: What do you not understand?
A: "For the longest time Ed, Andy, and Ken were marginalized
on here until the "scene" died out."

On this particular forum - Plaid, TBD (89-93), and Aliases
were always second-tier to the likes of RDJ, AE, BoC, and
Squarepusher. Once the "scene", whatever you wish to call
it started to die out (which effected this forum) music
discussion went away and stayed there, for obvious reasons.

Make that 1994 - the original trio in other words.

Oh. I can't remember that Plaid/TBD always was a second tier
here, but then again, I didn't even notice that the "scene"
"died" "out."

I better start paying some attention to things around me!

We do need more trolling around these parts. Carry on good
sir.

Yes. I do not agree that Plaid/TBD has had a status as
second tier, or been marginalised here in any way. At the
same time, I think that statements about the electronic
scene died out, is silly. I think it's more alive than
ever.
Therefore; me=trolling

Well, you would be wrong in both points. Going back to
2002, there has always been more traffic regarding the other
Warp artists mentioned earlier. If you feel the need go
back through the archives for proof be my guest. An easier
way to prove my point is look at WATMM. Which artist was
the last one on there to get it's own sub-forum and how much
later than the others. (Hint: It's not Cylob)

As for the scene....it's self evident. Back in the early
2000s we steady releases from all the "big names" on WARP.
Where has WARP gone recently? It was already mentioned
above. It's only natural that things of this nature happen.
Are you saying Jungle never died out from it's height?
Sure it came back, but you know very well when its peak was,
same with Hardcore, Electro, etc.

So then what do you call it? It's obvious when the peak
was. I don't think my comments are silly at all. How come
this forum has been less about music than it was earlier on
and more about random things non-music related?

All the founding artists of this genre are getting older. Im
sure they have lives to live, families etc. Just because the
theyre not releasing new stuff doesnt mean its dead.
Autechre (who I still think have "it") released and album
and an EP, the Black Dog put out quite a few releases this
year. We're on the verge of seeing new releases from Aphex,
Plaid and Boards of Canada and your telling me we're not
getting steady electronic music?!

As for new bands and artists, of course theyre not going to
sound exactly like stuff back in 2000 and before. That would
be boring and involve people ripping off other people. Also
the tech is changing. Its less about hardware and more about
software. Barcode can stick his opinion up his arse,
hardware is expensive, messy and time consuming. It just
makes sense for people to use software now.

"IDM" is a term used by pretentious music nerds to make
themselves feel better that the rest. I couldn't give a shit
if it dies. However if you're telling me that electronic
music is dying out you're either not looking very hard or
you're a moron. I recommend checking out recent releases on
Skam and Mu among other record labels.

IM FUCKING UP TO MY EYES IN MUSIC!!!! Most of it is amazing
too.

Oh yeah and Squarepusher just released an album. But I find
all you old farts would rather shite on about the so called
glory days than give a new rekkid a listen and a chance.

What´s this "scene" you guys are talking about? Electronic
music in general? I don´t know when/if that peaked, but I
think it´s still pretty vital. If you are talking about
some "IDM/Braindance scene", it peaked way before this mb
was up.
And the reason this place is less about music and more about
crap isn´t because there is a lack of interesting music out
there. I guess it´s a cycle that goes on a lot of
messageboards. Good messageboards attracts bored people. The
problem with xlt is a webmaster who hasn´t cared for years,
and a lack of moderation.

My point isn't about music being released. Music can still
be released while something is on the decline. Jungle was
still released albeit more sparingly as the 90s and 00s came
and went, same thing here.

I'm not talking about hacks ripping off the "old bands."
Simply put, music discussion has gone WAY down since the
early 2000s on this forum and others. You could say
Electronic Music in general is on a decline with the
exception of the oh so interesting dubstep.

As for the term, yeah it's b/s. I kept quoting scene
because I am talking about our little bubble here (I guess I
should have said IDM instead of scene). Yes people like
other music, but for the most part it dealt with labels like
WARP, µ, SKAM, Rephlex, etc.

Bingob touched on various reasons for this forum going belly
up, which is a reference to how I see this niche.

I know I touched on new releases, and perhaps some of my own
opinions about music are fueling what I believe to be true.
I personally have stopped following many of these artists
and labels for many years and have ventured backwards into
the Detroit-influenced Techno and Electro of the past and
present.

I don't know what else I can say other than the discussion
(interest) has gone way down hill here and elsewhere over
the last few years.
