i remember in 2000 there was a war between old school ae fans and nu school fans. i was heavily into lp5, ep7 & peel sesh 2 and there were all the early fans saying ae had lost it, they were doing shit etc. which i knew was wrong because i did dig their recent stuff by then. now i'm not so much into ae and i tend to think they lost their inspiration. (though i played their last lp once and found it better than untilted or draft)
i have been a little away from idm forums in the past 5 years, so: have i just become the old cunt i was fighting 5 years ago? what are today's opinions about their recent stuff (meaning post peel sesh 2) ?

whats the point of this? neither they had "lost it" while making lp5 nor have they lost their inspiration now. I guess its sure to say they do what feels right to them at the time, so should you. its not a matter of "old/young", "cunt/penis", its a matter of taste: some tracks you like, some you dont. simple.

it wasn't really anything new for me to hear a group go from something more accessible to something more experimental. coil had already gone from loves secret domain to time machines, skinny puppy had gone from rabies to last rights and download furnace. for me it wasn't like i was just into heady techno and along comes confield and draft and i'm like wtf. it actually felt natural.
anyway if you like that late 90s period listen to move of ten. the album (oversteps) is pretty ambient overall, but the ep is probably the closest to classic ae i've heard in a while, beats and all.
