what drives you ppl?

personally i'm turning 20 in a couple of weeks, and have run
into a major crossroads...i whent throught my ninja/shaolin
monk phase (and i'm still doing martial rats), and i've
tired doing the music thing...but now the ppl i look up to
think probably think i'm a liar and don't want anything to
do with me. I've been a hippie to extents, and a
programmer/hacker to others...I've always followed "he who
dies with the most toys still dies," and tried to live
carefree...

i'm due for some serious soul searching, but who can i when
i don't have one? not even a spark...i'm i grow colder by
the day...

i was just wondering what drives you ppl...a gf? good job?
weed? music? i'm just curious for input, and i need
something to read to keep me away for 2 more hours...

A drug-free care-free mindset coupled with a cynical
nineties piss-and-vinegar esthetic is what keeps me going
from day to day.

Really. You only have a limited ammount of time. The people
who manage to die during a life of contentment even after
pissing off every single person they have ever met are
invariably better off than those who live those who spend
most of their lives worrying about how they are being
accepted.

Baisically, I am not saying you should go out and become an
alchoholic cracksmoking wifebeater, but you really should
stop second guessing yourself as much as you seem to. If you
learn to feel comfortable with yourself, I find that things
seem to fall into place a lot easier.

yeah, here and there, I dunno if life has any real meaning,
it doesn't for me anyway, so i just pursue things that make
me feel good. My grirlfriend being one of them

Does anyone know: today is the international gypsies' day.

I have no life. No Job. But for some reason I keep
breathing...

the meaning of life is to survive. the purpose of death is
to die. it's as simple as that.

I think the meaning of life is to experience. Its the
porpose of existence to survive.

i always figured,
whatever the purpose is, or if there even is a purpose,
which likely there is not, being alive is a pretty rare
thing. All of the things that had to happen to bring you
into existence; all of the things that could have gone wrong
that could have prevented your existence; and all of the
things that could happen to you every day to end your
existence; no matter what your faith is, you have to admit
that it is pretty amazing to be alive. And since you only
have a finite time alive, and approx 1/3 of it is spent
sleeping, and for most of us another 1/3 is spent working,
you only get about 1/3 or less to do what you like. It is
better to be enjoying yourself in that free time than to be
hating people, hating yourself, complaining about things
that suck etc..
if something makes you happy, do it. if something makes you
angry, fix it. It takes too much energy to stress out about
stupid shit.
take advantage of being alive and enjoy it because it very
well could be the only time you'll ever get to do it.

You really have to choose between science and religion. The
fundimental difference is, in science selfishness is good
(survival of the fittest) and in religion selfishness is bad
(do unto others...), once youve got that part worked out,
the rest should follow.

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-04-09 13:49 [#00163928]

I always find that those who ascribe to religion are the
people least likely to live by the maxim 'do unto others' or
their equivalents.

religion can describe the reason.
science can describe the method.
they don't have to be conflicting philosophies.
my religion IS science

Come on: science relies on proof, religion on belief. They
are conflicting.

Yeah, but science tries to get everything prooven, relying
on things that seem to be absolute from a common point of
view, religion does quite the contrary: the absolute in
religion is going against the common, rational reasoning: it
speaks of things unbelievable. That's its beauty, but its
burden too...

christians believe god created man for example; but some
christians believe that the method for the creation of man
was evolution. in this example science describes the method
of creation but faith distinguishes the perpetrator.
so maybe science does not always contradict faith.

i'm agnostic though, i don't care if life was intentionaly
created. i just recognize that life is an interestingly
rare occurance.

well,, if you read the bible (the only approved description
of creation by the church) you'd know that evolution is
quite the opposite to ex-nihilo theory...

"live and let live. We say to human brothers black white
left right lets live and let live. the aim of the game is to
feel real good"
-- jean-jaques perry

Or the meaning of life is 42, if you follow the works of
douglas adams.

everyone needs to read the book DAS ENERGY I think the
meaning of life is to be know for something or influence
people in a positive way i mean look at APHEX TWIN he
influenced all of us, hes one main reason i bought a
sampler, drummachine etc. I just want to produce art and
music that will survive when im gone. that will hopefully
influence people or inspire them to paint draw or produce
music. Also people need to do what they feel is right,
despite laws, you need to fight for freedom, all these
stupid laws confuse people and people dont use common sense
or recognize the obvious. sometimes things are complicated
but have a simple answer that is obvious but its overlooked
because its right infront of there face.

I think people see humans as far too important. What makes
us any more important than plants? We are just cells working
together anyway.

Death is just the cells dying and stopping working together.
We all become part of those things we don't even think about
as significant
