yo. i'm hoping to visit my cousin in LA in august but want to do some road tripping from yellowstone to vegas and maybe denver and maybe a lot more. do any of you live around these parts? have you ever done a trip like this? can you recommend any of the bigger cities in CO, AZ, utah nevada etc? what about wyoming. is that any good? holla back, plz. |

You can use to get a general idea of the price per gallon USD that you can expect to pay per state/area. As far as mileage, it depends on the fuel economy of the car you'll be using, of course, and whether you'll be doing mostly city or highway driving. I think most newer cars get around 25mpg (highway), and according to that map, gas will be about $3/gallon (rounded up) in pretty much all of the western United States. So using those numbers as a given, it would cost about 12 cents per mile but again these are all estimates. If you're renting a car, try to get the best fuel economy you can. |

Some advice that was given to me once when I was planning to hitchhike across the states was to avoid the interior areas and just stay on the coast if possible. If you end up making it further north than you were expecting, Cape Disappointment is beautiful, and its name makes for great travel stories. Tricky driving tho. |

I skipped the grand canyon (I was there about 7 years ago and had a brief look) and went to Zion (same thing but no hiking). Turned out to be a good decision. Tomorrow i'll be sleeping at the luxor hotel in Las Vegas. http://www2.imm.dtu.dk/~awk/photography/zion_02.jpg not my photo, but this is what it generally looks around here. protip: on the road, listen to Bill Hicks and Alan Watts for best results.
