the banksy haters are so boring. he's done some really great
stuff. but he became famous and now it's the hype to say
he's shit. you can't win.

i prefer to think of him as a faceless sneaky law breaking
citizen, who would dare to illegaly exhibit paintings of
controversial images in a local art gallery

I disagree, street artists have always hated Banksy and
other "stencil" bombers like him for a long time. It has
nothing to do with him becoming famous, it has more to do
with the fact that he's another talentless hack ala Shepard
Fairey who couldnt draw to save his life, but whos managed
to infiltrate the scene and gain attention not for his skill
but for his forced politicalness.

banksy talentless?

after Liferemotecontrol vapourised I'm looking forward to
seeing this docco.

More often or not, I find that the local graff artists will
bag him out for using "stencils" like it removes any
artistic merit from the piece, then you see them in awe
after they discover that his work actually has great
conceptual value. Something that %99 of "graffiti" lacks in
bucketloads.

banksy is now mainstream, I'm sure the "trendys" don't dare
like his work anymore...

Hanal, youre actually a better artist than Banksy.

Bansky was far from original, he copped his whole style and
even his little rat from Blek le rat who was doing that shit
30 years ago.

Banksy is simply an artschool dropout with marketing savvy,
nothing more, nothing less.

indeed, banksy is certainly not the originator of street
stencil art. Nor will he be the last street stencil artist.
The medium/technique just lends itself so well to "getting
up".

As for a torrent, then that's been as elusive as the
identity of the man himself of late...

His talent lies in his ideas and the way he executes them.
Stencils or not, you can spot a banksy piece a mile away.
Like it or not, he did something different and people stood
up and noticed.

I think the vast majority of banksy haters do so because he
got famous. It's a real shame that talent has to remain
unknown for some people to recognise it.

fo sure, just because it's done on the street doesn't mean
it can't have great conceptual-ism value at the level found
in most fine art gallerys. For me, this is a key element
into what makes banksys work shine so much brighter than the
rest.

b6662966 is right, banksy isn't original. that's why i gave
up painting, no matter how good i was, it was clear that
no-one was going to credit me with inventing it.

painting takes skill, so props to you.

creating outlines of pictures in adobe photoshop, printing
them out onto stencils and painting them onto walls does
not.

the worst part about it is, banksy's goofy fans ascribe some
vague politcalness to his bland imagery and make him out to
be genius when the guy is obviously just trolling for
kicks.

i think he is a good artist, allot of post modern art is
pretty shit though, and i would say that not all of it is to
my taste, but i have seen some original ideas in his work.
Also i have seen some oil paintings which are not bad

i'm just joshing with you chief.

i think he is good at what he does, all things considered.
fair enough if you think otherwise.

ps. my paint work was utter crap. i'm far better in pencil.
even better in crayon. just don't let me near your walls.

b6662966 is right, however banksy affirms this himself by
saying:

"every time I think I've painted something slightly
original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well,
only twenty years earlier."

but Banksy is just establishing relevance by keeping that
style alive, just like Ashley Wood does after artists like
bill sienkiewicz or barron storey. yeah it's not original at
all though.
