Though upgrades take work. Luckily, upgrades can be made more efficient by spending long hours on them.

apple soundtrack pro, it's the best i tried for audio editing tasks since the old cubase 1.6 sx (last cracked for osx). it lacks nothing.

What are the benefits of editing audio in Soundtrack Pro over Logic (if there are any)?

most of the audio editors for mac are made of shit but it's definately a matter of feel. soundtrack just works for me. what i didn't like in logic (at least, the last i tried) is that it wouldn't allow you to process portions of audio files: if i had an audio track, and i wanted a bit of that track to have some effect, i needed to: duplicate that track, cut the rest off the interested bit, load an audio unit and write a whole automation for that track. you even needed to bounce that portion and reload it with a new name if you just wanted to reverse it for example.
in cubase (here's an old screenshot) you just needed to select the portion and apply the effect on the fly, though destructively. nowadays you have that function only if you buy the most expensive version of it. plus, nowadays cubase sucks.
now, i don't know if soundtrack is capable of that trick with Audio Units but if i want to shape a bit i just have to trim off that bit, select the newly created clip and apply 'convert to multitake clip'. then process it as a unique file in the very same track. pretty handy.

srsly duder i'm having a hard time following this post, this sounds hella complicated... and you're afraid of programming tsk tsk..
also i just nearly smashed my laptop to the wall trying to do something really simple in Adobe Illustrator. (CROP the artboard) FUCK software.

i assure you that it's more complicated to explain than actually doing it. it's true that making music this way drains you away though. but its good for training.

There is no exciting new software any more. Everything is too influenced by other software and conventions. No one would dare do stuff like the right click menu like Cubase VST used to do (does Cubase still do it?).
Where is the software which does a spectral analysis of my sound, creates a time variant harmonic map and allows me to tweak it? Resynthesis? Then processes my input signal, frequency matching the fundamental to the chromatic scale, so I can sing into it?
What about a nice blocky gui with lots of keyboard use rather than mouse clicking? Convolutional reverb, binaural audio, vocoding... come on chaps.
I realise most of this can be done with various VSTs or whatever, but where is the single program with a minimal mouse GUI, everything above included and obvious to use? I refuse to put up with mouse clicky gui.
Why can't I record a sound I like, tweak the harmonics, sing into it the computer and the output is in the harmonically tweaked additive sound in the key of my voice vocoded with the raw sound of my voice?
Hmmmm, sounds like I want a soft Synclavier with the benefits of 21st century DSP horsepower!

can't you just take that there is people who can eata loads of concepts like a snap but the same people need to stare 3 hours at a simple mathematic formula to get around the same 10 pages concept? they exist.

I would imagine a lot of it has been sampled, so is more difficult than simply thinking "squelchy = 303, booming bass = 808, etc"
There's probably loads of recognisable things on drukqs, but they've been chopped up so it's hard to tell, like if you remove the attack off drums and layer it with a shorter hit it sounds totally different, even for such obvious ones as 808/909. I like using sampled drums off rock and roll records layered with ones off drum machines, gives it a really good sound.

though, the sounds on there are not normal, really. Not normal.
Most stuff gets teh fanboys swarming around and figuring out this or that pretty quickly but Drukqs it still what it was in 2001.
