I'm making some real time music visualisation things. The elements on screen move in time with the music and it has a bunch of controls so you can influence the visuals. i reckon you're using realtime fft and then move things around according to volume of spectral bands? and beat detection maybe? never bothered with fft, cause i thought the analysing can go only so far... i mean it's hard to extract meaningful data from a mixed track/song, so i'm kinda going the route of creating both sound and visual in one process, which isn't much easier necessarily, but, i found this music analysing API, which seems to do pretty cool things, haven't used it yet though. |

I'm using an fffb to split the audio. Each bit then goes in to a biquad filter controlled by filtergraph. All parameters are user controllable if they are not receiving the results they want or if they want to mess around, as seen in the pic below. |

you could look at the js javascript object in max for doing generative visuals. . . i'd imagine code would be more straightforward for generating recursive things. |

the tutorials and javascript pdf are quite useful- you can call instances of all max/msp/jitter objects in the code so you can avoid those freeze/resume errors max is fond of spitting out. |

I hate being a student. I miss working full time and renting my own place with money that I didn't have to pay back. I miss living with people I actually like. I miss making stuff because it was fun and interesting. Over Christmas I have to work in a shitty comedy club to earn a bit of dosh and score some shitty student horror film which I had to script because it appears they let any cunt who can scrawl an 'x' on a piece of paper in to university these days, hell they let me in on the basis of a CD of hastily knocked together shite and didn't once ask for qualifications. Rant over. |

Nah I'm good, just a little shocked at how people aged 18-21 seem to be happy with spending three grand in fees a year and then pissing it away in the form of shit marks through laziness. Group work is a fucking nightmare! I only did a degree because the clearing day popped up one year and I thought 'you know what, I could do that' and kind of applied for a laugh, then got in despite having no A levels (?!?!) then, of course, over the next few years I got in to it, I learnt fuck all in the first year and did well and thought 'I could bloody ace this' then in the last year half of my projects rely on some snotty nosed shit to get off of his arse for long enough to go and get a single form and fill it in, which he then fails to do. I'm sure you've encountered similarly thoroughbred twats in your endeavours. |
