i read the article and i fail to see how microsoft are responsible.
take precaution and protect yourself against malware and this would never be a problem in the first place.

(note some of these things might exist in Vista, I went from XP to 7)
you can drop files onto taskbar buttons and they open in the app you dropped them on;
you can rearrange taskbar buttons by dragging them;
(optionally) closing taskbar buttons with the middle mouse button, like tabs in firefox
you can hit start and type the first few letters of the app you want to run, rather than searching the start menu;
for most existing hardware [notably excluding high end soundcards] you can literally plug and play, no more driver cds needed;
drag a window to the top of the screen and it maximizes, drag it down and it restores; drag it to the side and it fills half the screen...
x64 and x86 discs generously provided in the box, i can finally use all 4GB of RAM;
new system tools like Resource Monitor show you which app is hogging your bandwidth/memory/cpu;
new audio subsystem gives individual volume controls to every app, and is greatly simplified in general;
hidden taskbar tray item management is a lot more simple and actually works all of the time;
explorer arranges stuff alphabetically all the time, not just when you hit F5 - copy a file into a folder, and it will automatically jump into the correct order
they renamed C:\Documents and Settings\ to C:\Users\ which saves a lot of time if you are a keyboard freak like me. better general folder structure within user folders, dropping the "My" prefix (so now folders are called Downloads, Pictures, Documents etc.)
basically I am using it in Windows Classic mode so it looks like XP, but acts like Windows 7. it's like XP on steroids. I still have XP on my laptop and I do notice the new features, Windows 7 just generally helps you work faster and it doesn't patronise you like Vista did (in my brief experience of it).

if it runs similar to XP, then i can imagine it doing rather well. i have heard a lot of good about it, which is a change to the reception vista got- and never managed to break from.
great. :)
