in what way is it better than winamp?

winamp skipped a version because it's so excellent

foobar doesn't seem to get beyond it's beta status because
it's already this excellent

pick your cheese and enjoy it before it gets old

it's customizable beyond belief, and more reliable.

you can make it look and behave exactly the way you want,
with a few guides to help you on your way.

winamp is internet explorer, and foobar2000 is firefox.

more reliable than winamp?

in the 10 years i've used winamp, it has never crashed
once.

i liked foobar when i tried it, but for the way i play
music, winamp is perfect.

i switched to foobar after some serious issues running
winamp on windows vista. now, it might not be winamp's fault
per se, but i couldn't even run winamp at the time.

vista broke everything.

you'll be pleased to know winamp works perfectly on xp and
windows 7 - two windows based os that don't actually suck :)

do i get this new one or stick with fb2000 v0.9.6.3 beta 2

will anything change? i dont like change much.

also anyonw know how to make foobar minmise to tray or into
a toolbar like WMP does?

offline Advocate on 2009-11-24 09:29 [#02346348]

all my components work with this version, and there are no
big changes for me. note that 1.0 beta 1 stops working after
4 weeks. i would probably wait for 1.0 final if you don't
want to install again in a couple of weeks.

preferences -> default user interface -> minimize to
notification area

in what exact way do you play your music? up-side down?

hah

no, rather than have visible playlists of albums, I usually
just skip between individual tracks on my hdd by browsing
through my directories via winamps open/play button.

i've got a pretty idiosyncratic filing system, which makes
it easy for me to find what i need.

the smaller the gui, the better. i'm a total minimalist.

That's pretty much perfect for foobar, to be honest.

Plus, if ever you got a load of terribly tagged stuff, you
could tag it using discogs, and then move it around to your
heart's content, even if your directory structure is
something like

%genre% \ %artist% - %album% (%catalogue_number% %label%) \

(that's not actually valid foobar titleformatting, i was
just using it as a readable example)

I used to use Winamp and I loved that. Now I use Foobar and
I love that. Soon I will just stare at my harddrive and
imagine sounds, and I will love that, too.

even if you know what's there to know already.

I've used foobar for 4 years or something. Glad to see it's
out of beta. No big changes, but it's stable and has a nice
gui.

there's this cool new plugin i've enjoyed lately. a
motherfucking waveform seekbar. just like soundcloud man.
it's quite customizable and it stores waveforms of your
entire music library in a cache file. pretty neat if you ask
me. if you have a large music library it might use a couple
of hours to read the waveforms, but when it's done you've
got a waveform for every song. you don't really need the
default seekbar.

may look like this

you can customize colors, size and shit.
