I've had a pair of sony mdr-cd570 headphones for years now. So comfy and I prefer closed ones. They suck at mixing music though, but I've learned to compensate..overdo the reverbs, crank up the highs etc. Saving up for some Tannoy Reveal active monitors now.

How is the bass on them?...I'm tempted but have been spoilt by a sub-woofer and the texture it adds to music..
But I'm a on the lookout (s/b ear-out I guess) for a real decent pait that still has that bottom end presense without any distortion...
Am i expecting too much from HP...the phsyics seem to suggest so...
any advice greatfully received....

Most Sennheisers have excellent bass. The fact that the driver is so close to your ear, and completely surrounds your head helps the effect. The ones I have, the sony mdr-7506s are also great for bass. Doesnt have as much kick as a subwoofer, obviously, but still good.
