Pastiche

n.

1. A dramatic, literary, or musical piece openly
imitating the previous works of other artists.

So here we are, another cx spam thread, another identikit
autechre rip-off. Its almost there. it almost feels like
something that was new and original 10 years ago, except its
lacking those vital ingredients; namely a decent mix, a
whole lot less treble & some original ideas. This is
hypnotic and repetitive, but there is far too much noodle
for this to be classed as minimal.

To summarize; a dull electronic cacophony masquerading as
something cerebral. In short, a fine example of why so many
people hate electronic music.

Sorry you didn't like it :\
I guess this type of music isn't for you..

don't be so presumptuous. has it not occurred to you that it
may just be that I think you're doing 'this type of music'
a disservice?

you're just doing it cuz for some reason you hate me
personally.
this music has nothing to do with autechre, i have my own
style.
i dunno why you hate me, but you're prolly some other guy
like dog_belch so i dunno.

whatever though

but it's ok to be

I can't blame Guybrush for wanting something fresh, possibly
even 'new'.

its ok but needs some more melodic overtones. the treble is
a bit too high. i found it a bit background tbh

come now Guybrush- you make some good/funny posts sometimes,
but there's really no reason to be a bully here. I know you
might counter that you're posting constructive criticism,
but we both know that when you post something to cx it's
usually malicious in nature. The sad thing is really that cx
is such a nice guy, like I've never seen him post a mean
thing to anyone since he first made his account.

Cx: I liked it-- I like the hip hop backbone trying to burst
out of it's skin. I feel like it coulda used one more
element in the last third, but I'm not sure what that
element would be... maybe some kind of quiet, demented
synth.

It doesn't sound much like ae to me at all. I hear a lot
more Richard Devine type influence in your stuff these last
couple years-- funny thing is I think a lot of your tracks
are better than Devine's. He does "soundscapes" well, but he
rarely makes any beat driven tracks that I enjoy.

offline cx from Norway on 2009-08-30 19:38 [#02321252]

@ ampi yeah i was thinking about that. ill fix the treble
later, and might try a synth / drone.. thanks!

@ wolfslice thanks man that's very kind.. i really like
devine
i was actually thinking of playing the song "backwards",
that is start with the simple beat in the end and then build
up and maybe make some synths, rather than the noisy first
few minutes thats there now.

ill see what ill come up with later.

btw to guybrush or whoever. I never said my stuff was
totally unique or original. i never presented it that way.
the idea behind these tracks were to put beats to the
abstract layers i created. i used to post only abstract but
now i like it with beats. any similarity to autechre or
others is not intentional.
my idea didnt even stem from me listening to autechre.
you have to have a tendency to like glitch and noises to
like this music, and if you dont, well then dont listen to
it

just don't respond to guybrush, take what he says for what
it's worth and go about your business, simple as that.

you act like this is all new to you, you might as well get
used to this type of shit everytime you post a track, unless
you can remain objective about people's opinions of your
music

he didn't "act" any which way. he simply replied to
guybrush's comment as best he could and caught even more
flak.

w/e, just trying to give the guy some inight, not trying to
give him any flak.

offline cx from Norway on 2009-08-30 22:34 [#02321293]

from my experience hes always out to call me names and
ridicule me. i guess he wanted it to really sting this time
so he disguised it as an opinion.
hes not out to comment on my music with good intentions, he
does this because he hates me. just look at any other post
hes made about me.
if he had good intentions but ended up not liking the track
that would be fine, but thats not whats happening here

cx gets very confused if you attempt to communicate with him
outside of spam. If you're truly sorry, make him a tune, and
wMw could remix it too, and then he'll understand. At the
minute he's just downloading some more vsts.
