Even people who can generally be consider evil?

I guess you'd be right in thinking that hating them isn't
going to solve anything.

If you can genuinely not hate anyone, it is a good thing
indeed. ^^

I get the feeling you like to distance yourself from people.
Do you consider most people to be "below" you? I'm not
judging, I'm only curious.

I don't hate you.

I have the same feeling too. I only have a few who reply to
my shite.

But on topic, I don't agree with your philosophies, but I
understand them I think.
It doesn't make me 'hate' you though.
I have a hard time really disliking someone online, they
must have been a real asshole to me personally for that.

yes, but not because I think I am great or important or
anything. Only the dumbest of the dumb think that everyone
is their equal. The world is full of inequality.

Well, in a perfect world, such a thing would be governed
objectively and empirically, meaning the sum of a person's
traits, characteristics, and achievements would essentially
place them "above" or "below" others, regardless of what
they thought of themselves.

In reality, it's governed by each of our egos separately. A
very intelligent, altruistic person may have a deflated ego,
and think him/herself to be below most people. A very
stupid, arrogant person often thinks of oneself very highly.
What a given person will say about him/herself is a crap
shoot because our minds all work differently and we all view
ourselves differently.

I don't think it's necessarily a good thing to "rank" people
amongst other people, but it's not wrong to do so either.
Like I said, we as people are not created equal.

So there's nobody that you look up to as a sort of "hero"
figure? There's nothing you aspire to be that you aren't
already?

offline Barcode from United Kingdom on 2009-08-25 10:16 [#02318524]
Points: 1767 Status: Lurker

I don't have any heroes. I doubt everything and everyone.
The only thing I aspire to is wealth, but I'm not ambitious
enough to be truly wealthy - ambition is what makes
capitalism so ugly.

Points: 16982 Status: Regular | Followup to Barcode: #02318524 | Show recordbag

Greed is what makes capitalism ugly, in my opinion. Ambition
tempered by altruism isn't so bad, but I already know how
you feel about altruism, so I'll leave it at that.

fishfingers (i dip them in humus)

offline Barcode from United Kingdom on 2009-08-25 10:27 [#02318527]

I very much doubt ambition and altruism can co-exist under
ordinary circumstances. Ambition is self-fulfilment,
altruism the complete opposite.

so you don't think there is some person involved in, say a
charitable organization, who seeks opportunities to move up
so they can have a greater impact in the work the
organization is doing.

say there is some level of corruption or inefficiency in
this organization, and the person's ambition is based on
moving up so they have the ability to correct those
problems.

anyway people are not black and white. generally there is
an amount of selfish ambition mixed with a sense of altruism
mixed with all kinds of other thoughts and emotions. people
will generally think something like this is good because
i will make more money but also i'll have a greater impact
and it will also benefit x, y and z..
etc.

barcode is one of the coolest people on this board because
he doesnt need to make an ass of himself to look cool. He
just says what he wants, and knows a lot about the human
mind. He does, sometimes, let his feelings get the best of
him when replying to people who challenge his beliefs.
