Anyone seen the trailer yet? It seems apple couldn't cope
with the amount of people going there to view it.

lol, how are Apple idiots?

why should they spend money on buying servers and bandwidth
to deal with promoting James Cameron's latest film?

i'm not pleased that he's gone down the 3D route anyway - as
a person who needs to wear spectacles, i find it difficult
to watch these 3D films because i have to wear a pair of
glasses over the top of my existing glasses. it causes image
distortion and fucks up the 3D-ness, and is also
uncomfortable.

patience and you'll see it. it'll be up on youtube, no doubt

from what i've read and i'm not a huge macaroon fan, is that
its a very subtle 3d film and he say's he's using it on a
subconscious level and he states he doesn't like the full on
3d experience so maybe it'll be a smarter approach to the
technique, but i'll guess we'll have to wait see

first of all apple were making a big thing about showing the
preview today at a specific time, the least they could have
done is had it working for that time.

also the 3D glasses, i don't know if you have used the
latest ones but I wear glasses and these ones fit right over
without any problem and i didn't notice anything wrong with
the 3D. This was at the Coraline screening.

on one hand Avatar looks fantastic... but its not quite
photo realistic like I thought it would be.

"Now the technology is good enough that it can be used to
enhance any film, just as another step forward in realism.
This is just like how 3D rendering tech eventually replaced
animatronics.
"

In my opinion, CGI that is good enough to blend seamlessly
with live action film is exceedingly rare. 99.9% of the
time, I find myself being pulled out of the action because
of how glossy and fake it looks. Maybe if you're comparing
animatronics from the early 80's to top-budget CG from
today, the CGI will look better, but watch a film from the
prime animatronics days just before CG took over (Jurassic
Park, for example) and then watch any cgi film, and tell me
which one looks more real. I will say that pre-rendered CGI
backdrops usually look pretty good, but CGI characters have
a way to go before they're actually an improvement over
animatronics, IMO. A classic example is the comparison
between the original star wars films and the prequels.
Despite the aging special effects in the original films,
they still look 10x more realistic than the new films, which
are essentially just human actors standing in front of a
green screen for 2 hours.

Agreed. Hardly the 'game changer' Cameron claimed it to be.
Will reserve my judgement until seeing it though. It's
obvious he has a great love of 3D and his belief in setting
the depth to go further back from the screen rather than
having stuff 'jumping out' at you (like looking through a
window) could create some incredible work.

We'll see.

the blue alien looked like something from disney...

It is a piss poor trailer and my expectations have lowered
quite a bit, however I do think the film itself, in 3D will
be a much better but we'll see.

Another promising movie ruined by CGI. There might be a good
story underneath all of the vertices and polygons, but I
can't take a film which posits real people alongside fucking
cartoons seriously anymore. Give me live action or give me
death.

I think the whole 3D thing is major cheese. Every 3D movie
I've seen uses the technique in really obvious/flamboyant
ways that make me feel like a dog getting sprayed in the
