Another crusade from the french censure committy. they go
now fighting against... GTa3.
Once again, videogams are taken responsible for all violence
and brutality of youth people...
what do yu think about
violence and videogames?

this is an old argument...

personaly, i think kids use these to vent any voilence...
instead of acting out their fantasies on others...

also, the world hasn't seem violent videogames untill i'm
done with my education and start my own gaming co. i'm
plaining on some wicked shite...like a realistic gta3ish rpg
where you're a NY serial killer...

that's just the tip of the iceburg...

I remember when Mortal Kombat came out a loooong time ago in
the arcades. I was just a wee little lad... I thought it was
SO fucking cool when Sub Zero would rip people's heads off
and you could see their spinal cord hanging down with blood
dripping everywhere...

But it hasn't desensitized me to violence... I can't look at
gory pictures (like at Rotten.com) without getting terrified
and running to get a hug from my mommy.

In the first place I'm against violence in videoclips, for
example d12 and rammstein, are bad influence.
video's like that should be forbidden under 16 or
something...

I'm talking the video's here,not the music

If someone plays a game and then acts out a form of violence
out in the real world then there is something really wrong
with them.

I love killing people and the police in the GTA games but in
real life I'm a wimp and I run at first sign of blood!

I can't look at rotten.com but I love doing all manner of
violent things in games. How many people that really acted
out violence from games or movies already had some problem
(perhaps a mental problem? That cause's them not to know a
difference from real and fake? I don't know about these
things...)

When will people learn!!

I think people feel better to blame the violence of
something solid and videogames are an easy target.

Setting people on fire with the flamethrower is good fun!

Grand Theft Auto 3 - never has there been such a good mix of
violence and video games!

Got Carmageddon to thank for that shit boy! I still kinda
prefer GTA 1 on the PC. All the glitches made it really fun.
GTA 3 is v good tho.

A few months ago here they took GTA3 off sale! This is so
stupid:

In Australia there is no R rating for games.

GTA3 was deemed an R game...

HANG ON! That doesnt make sense! So of course they done the
smart thing and brang in the R rating.... NO!!!! After it
being sold for a few weeks they banned it then later
released a cut down version rated MA!

Though I've heard the cut's arent that big... still why
can't we have an R rating!!! We get 18+ games from Brittan!

They had cool radio songs on GTA 1 and 2. There was one
about oral sex on GTA 1 "Four letter love"! It was
hillarious!

animals until they die and it promotes consumption of magic
mushrooms...

it all my life, but im not a serial killer. Its just
scapegoating IMO.

these people should realize:
videogames have only really been around for 30 years or so.
violence has been around for.. hmmm.. lets see... FOREVER?

we have all grown up with videogames. when we were kids, we
wanted games with cute characters squishing other cute
characters. but now we are adults. we want games with big
menacing characters violently dismembering other big
menacing characters. little kiddies should not be playing
GTA3 without parental supervision anyway.
the games are not responsible. its mum and daddy who should
be held accountable. people are just upset that they cant
have the PS2 babysit their kids anymore.

You know, it's really ridiculous that video games get blamed
for being influential when there are so many more subversive
things out there. I mean, look at MTV. IT's brainwashed an
entire generation to think that Linkin Park is the future of
music

I listen to this 'alternative' radio station when i'm at
work all day. after about a month, i hate to admit, i kinda
like LInkin Pork
its just that everything else they play is soooooo awful;
when a LinkIn Pork song comes on im like "alright! a song

here is a story that is somewhat related to the
topic.

It seems no one (in the USA at least) wants to accept
responsibility for their own goddamn actions. Instead they
have to blame or sue someone else.

offline shibumi from United States on 2002-04-02 16:12 [#00154928]

That's the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard. I mean, by
that logic, I should sue Time Warner for making TV so
addictive, addictive enough that the average american has
their tv on 7 hours a day. Maybe they should put warning
labels on televisions now. Or how about this. I'll sue god
for making masturbation so addictive and for giving me a
right hand. . . .
uh, just forget I wrote that.

offline Jedi Chris on 2002-04-02 16:18 [#00154935]
Points: 11496 Status: Lurker

Don't get me wrong about America, but it does seem that
there are more people there who'll sue for anything, rather
than blame themselves. I almost get the impression that if
you give someone the wrong kinda look, they could probably
sue you in America. I'm glad it's not that bad here - yet I
suspect we're not that far behind sadly!

offline shibumi from United States on 2002-04-02 16:22 [#00154938]

It really is bad here. Some woman won something like 5
million dollars from McDOnalds because she spilled hot
coffee on herself. We basically have no values here. Words
don't really mean anything, they're just tools to get what
you want, real sophistry.

Let me guess the coffee was too hot - then again, she
would've sued if it had been cold too!!

hehe
Yeah, they actually had to start putting labels all over the
drive-thru windows after that "warning. contents of coffee
are hot"
God, we americans are such idiots some times

A hot cup of coffee being hot ... what is the world coming
to??

The next thing that will happen is that you'll get signs at
the bus stop saying 'Don't stand in the road or you'll get
run over!!'

....or do they exist!! :)

Not yet. Emphasis on the word YET. You know, I guess in
London an the UK they do have the Look Left, and Look Right
painted on the ground. THat's probably for all the stupid
americans who get confused by things like that. and the
metric system

People are violent because living in this consumerist
oppresive society is shit. Every aspect of our information
(school, media, etc.) is designed to control our minds for
their purpose, and that is usually to make money. We are all
well and truly pissed off that thinking for yourself is a a
strenuous and difficult exercise, and our only way to fight
back and show our power and hatred for the system that keeps
us down is to stoop to their methods - violence. Video games
may provide some inspiration or self indulgence, but have
dick all to do with the cause of our unrest...

Violence in computer games like GTA is a bit Hypocrytical,
IMHO, see, in most games you kill the bad guys (who are
human looking like sprites, etc.), and nobody gives a shit.

But if someone would make a game where you have to fly a
plane into a virtual recreation of the WTC, that would be
considered RASISTIC or ANTI AMERICAN. Why ? Isnt all human
life equeal ? Obviously not in Video Games & Movies other
media.....

i'm sure that there are people all over the world who would
sue for anything. there are just more lawyers in america so
americans have the means to sue. and lawyers are often
quite affordable here.
and speaking of warning labels, they should have to put
warning labels on mcdonalds hamburgers that say, "eating
beef causes stomach cancer and heart disease." have you ever
seen a carotid plaq? if you eat too much beef you will;
when they have to surgically remove it from your carotid
artery.

violence in video games or any media may possibly enforce or
amplify vilent tendancies, but they don't cause a person to
be violent. there are plenty of people who are mature
enough to handle exposure to violent media without being
turned into a violent person.

You could even argue that some video games are just
reflecting what modern-day society is actually like. I'm
sure there are some cities in America which are very similar
to those depicted in GTA3.

It feels good to splatter people into mush with rocket

But in real life, I'd be afraid just to punch someone in the

There's violence or rude language in videogames but no sex
(or hidden/
suggested, like in Max payne or kingpin).
Have yu ever seen soft sex or erotism in any games for the
last 5 years?
do yu think it could be a bonus for games to have soft sex
scene it it?
