I'm not criticisng selfishness, it's inescapable. In 99.9% of situations, every action you take is precipitated by thought - there is a clear division there. Thought is the contaminant. I'm not saying altruism does not exist full stop - some other animal species display altruistic activities (although perhaps its not fully uinderstood why), but in the overwhelmingly vast number of situations, human actions cited as altruism are in fact selfish actions. That may be subtle, even incomprehensible to the person who believes they are being altruistic, humans are skilled at deluding themselves - thought is so cunning in that way. |
