I don't mind that they're doing a revamp, but for me the OG
version will always be where it's at.

I'm really exited about the new episodic series though!
apparently one of the lead designers was one of the writers
for the first two games.

I don't know that he was ever funny. He could just draw
pretty well.

voice over definitely sounds like the sort of thing that
could be shite but did the 3rd one not have voice acting? i
can't remember=/

third one was great too IMO... even though I prefer the

I have to agree, the original was very unique with just the
text, leaves things to your imagination, playing a game is
like being in a fantasy. But these days video games don't
leave much for our minds to fill in the gaps...

adventure games are better when they allow room for the
player to project himself into the character as much as
possible

third one was fantastic, it's too bad they're going really
sloppy on the graphical "update" of the old ones... should
just remake it in the MI3 style instead.

agree with you larn, yet kids these days are too used to
being overstimulated when it comes to audiovisual media - so
to drop anywhere below this threshold requires a certain
amount of imagination to compensate otherwise it's gonna be
"boring". this remake will get kids into it, the updated
graphics and a voiceover, who wouldn't otherwise play such
an old game...

i love monkey island and would have to say its my favourite
game ever of ever

by telltale games?

i guess they're ok, but it just isn't lucasarts.

*sighs*

LucasArts hasn't been LucasArts in a long time either. They
dropped the ball pretty hard on the 4th MI game.

but like i mentioned one of lead designers of the first two
is running these new episodes, which is awesome.

episodic content sucks for anything more complex than a
blog. Mark my words, you're going to get a bunch of hastily
constructed, nearly identical "episodes" in quick
succession, or one decent episode every 8 months.

and guybrush is right, for once. I could see the logic
behind them wanting to update the graphics to a more modern
standard, but what was wrong with the voice acting?

And if you think I'm just blowing hot air, telltale games
are the jerks behind the Sam and Max episodes, which were
fucking dreadfully unfunny.

For the record

MI 1 & 2 are my favourites of ever.
3 was pants
4 looked cack

Grim fandago & DOTT were both ace

Voice acting for the originals is dumb

I've pre-ordered the new episodic games already. Should be
fun.

The Monkey Island 1 remake doesn't sound that exciting, and
the voice acting seems horrendous (even though it's the same
guy who did the voice before, apparently). But one thing I
enjoy about the new remake is the ability to switch in REAL
TIME between the original and the remade graphics. They say
it runs on the old engine, just with remade graphics, so
that also explains their "conservatism" in keeping to the
original structure of the game.

As for Telltale, they are a talented bunch that consists
largely of ex-Lucasarts employees. They were just the right
people to remake Sam and Max, since that was their project
at Lucasarts. I personally think the episodic sam and max
games are the best point and click games to come out in the
last five years, and I'm certainly not alone in that view.
Apparently the Strong Bad games were good, too, although I
never played them. Unfortunately, with the more recent
Wallace and Gromit they simplified the game too much, or
something went wrong. So I only hope that they pull no
punches in the new Monkey Island games, and make it as old
school as possible.

Maybe the voice acting wasn't great, it's been 10+ years
since I've played MI.

I stand by my statement that the sam and max episodes are
terrible.

The first MI didn't have voice acting, nor did the second
game. They only brought in voice work in Monkey Island 3 and
4.

it, 1998?

just finished the first ep of Tales of Monkey Island.
Overall it was pretty good-- also pretty short. Beat it in
about 3 hours. I was only moderately stuck once, for about
15 or 20 minutes.

Its no Monkey Island 2, but I'd say it's worth playing.
