Hi, everyone. Those of you who make music, as I do, what programs and hardware do you use? I've got a Roland JX-305, FruityLoops, and some assorted software. I want something that will run well on my old, Windows system. Any suggestions? I'd like to get my hands on Reason, but wow, that's pricey stuff.

I use ideas, imagination, but am limited currently by Sonic D's sorry ass fractal incubater 4. I store all my musical data in a bannana attached to the computer with wires, and I found a way to compose music with wires attached to an apple (the bannana was not fit for composition really, the apple molecules work better some reason)

I also use a roland jx-305, along with a yamaha fs1r and access virus. Haven't really used many computer programs, but I need to get some kind of sequencer, like cubase or logic. Hardware sequencers are very limiting...in my opinion.

hardware sequencers are not so good to use for multiple part sequences but if you want soething portable to just play into it is usually more effective as a recorder provided you can play keyboard., besides 1.44 floppies are a lot cheaper than a audio tape these days

Listen to raimons , he is a wise man and a very talented music maker!!!!
I sugest you download a file sharing program like kazaa or Morpheus and from there you can download a cracked free version of any music program you want and then create a master piece!!!.
Also download "win your love for me" by Sam Cooke cause it's the most beutiful love song ever made.

It is a very nice piece of kit if you have some other software also.
Use it in conjunction with the synths in reason.
I like it a lot.

Cubase VST, Native Instruments Pro-52, Waldorf Attack. Personally, I'd avoid anything that's tailored to make a particular kind of music, although Reason is quite powerful and fairly flexible.
Learning to use one of the big sequencers like VST, Logic or Sonar will take time, but it will let you be far more creative in the long run, than say Orion or FL etc.

Lets say that yu got reaktor. Yu can make and use various synthz, by mountin virtual devices one by one, and rely them.
With cubase, yu cant use reaktor as a vst instrument, wich means that yu can use, for example, a sequenced synth that play music following a tempo given by cubase via the midi clock.
and then comes te fun stuff. Using reason and cubase, via the rewire port, u go all the stuff of reason to be played with cubase and reaktor.
for example while in live, we use cubase mastertrack to give tempo and tempo changes to reaktor and reason, reaktor and others vst intrument play synthz, and reason is used to make real time moving beat structure.
