im an alcoholic. i quit in december. i went through an

you are an alcoholic is yourself.

You are not an alcoholic as long as you can afford it.

I went to AA for a while and it only made me worse. The best
thing I ever read though, related to the subject, was I
believe an interview with William Burrough's son. And I
think he'd been an alcoholic and what he said was what I
always used to say, that if you think you've not yet hit the
bottom then you're still ok, that you can carry on at least
"a bit longer". But as he says, that's the addicts' verion
of putting the alarm on "snooze", that the only bottom, as
such, is being on the receiving end of an autopsy. It dodn't
stop me from drinking but it did stop me from saying "Well,
I haven't yet reached the bottom", which I consider to be
some progress.

I think they biggest reason for you to stop is your son. You
want to be around for him when he's growing up, which you're
risking by drinking so much. If you have an alcoholic parent
you're far more likely to develop a drug disorder or have
alcohol problems yourself.
I'm not trying to be a dickhead Dan, I just think it's
really important to understand how you can change things for
the better if you change your drinking patterns now, while
he's still young.

another drink topic?

i just drink socially, so mainly when out with friends on
weekends... and only in moderation, enough to get me tipsy.
I hate getting drunk, I hate losing control of myself and I
hate hangovers. I have pretty much grown out of it now (i'm
29).

Drinking at home on your own is completely pointless imo.

I can't get drunk anymore either, I just drink to calm my
nerves. And yes since beer is my choice I have put on
weight. 30lbs to be exact. I remember trying to get drunk,
to feel stupid like that again, and it just didn't come, all
that happened was me getting sick and having a hangover. My
brain sucks.

I'm sorry sweets, it wasn't really my place to say, you
didn't ask for my opinion. I just think you're an incredible
guy, and know you love your son more than anything. I'd hate
to see all that go to waste when it's within your control to
change it.x

really a cool intelligent guy but he drank/cried and called

for him which dosnt make sense cos i know hes good ect ect.
its just not there. and i still remember when i was 5/6 the
moment i decided he simply wasnt a part of me; he just had
that pissed swollen wanker look on his face watching the
telly. anyway blah blah im just saying its the subtle things
about alchy dad that sells a kid short. i should just
shutup, carry on. im talking to myself more than you.

i dont drink a massive amount, but will have a glass of wine
every day and get really pissed once a week. never drink on
my own tho, i think if u drink alone alarm bells shud start
ringing. especially if its whisky / brandy.

I stopped drinking heavily when my kidneys started aching
and my skin went sickly pallid. I think it was when my
sister mentioned that I looked like I was dying that I
realized I was drinking too much.

boring.
