does anyone have any recommendations on headphones
(casual/attention listening) - and also headphone
amplifiers?

i connect my headphones/pc output to my mixer (then to
speakers) - so i *think* my mixer amplifies my headphones -
but im not really sure.

if anything, i was looking at the cheap home-fabd headphone
amps on ebay - anyone have any opinion on those?

i have senn570s now - but they are getting a little old and
i can hear noise from one the speakers (mechanical).

just curious if there are any good sales going on right now
with the way things are..might be a good time to upgrade the
sounds. -but ive been out of in-the-know on headphones for
so long - need input

i run my headphones out of the headphone jack of an onkyo
receiver and it's fine. my headphones are fairly high
impedence i think (sennh hd600) i don't know how much those
amps are on ebay, but the only headphone amps i've seen are
overpriced when a <$100 receiver will do. i've never seen
one for sale in a store.

i might as well stop dicking around and just buy a proper
receiver and monitor speakers (have decent computer 5.1
klipsch speakers - but shit is cheap now and my m8 works at
an audio shop/

i should probably jump on a new receiver/monitors, eh.

any moniter recommendations? im complete new to home audio

i have these for computer monitors LAZY_TITLE
they started out selling them for $45 but now they are
actually up around $80 cause they got attention on
audiophile forums. i was actually working there at the time
so i only had to pay ~$30 for speakers that go for $150
under the manufacturer's brand (they make these for bestbuy
minus a 'supertweeter' or something. and i think the
binding posts are supposed to be at the bottom not the top)
anyway it was a good deal for a co-axial speaker (tweeter is
in the center of the midrange=no lobing). loud enough for a
bedroom and i get by without a sub.

if you want bookshelf size monitors i would recommend making
sure they are at least 6.5" or else the mid bass extension
just isn't there. and a descent mid-range between the
woofer and tweeter will give you a more lifelike sound since
that covers the range human speech occupies. i haven't
looked at anything in forever so i couldn't recommend
anything specifically.

Headphones: Beyer DT250 (80 ohm)
Portable amp: Corda XXS

These two items with a pod makes for an amazing portable
listening experience. To get some monitors with the same
level of definition... would cost AT LEAST double what I
payed for this set up.

mapp- msg me on aim - we have to talk home audio

how is this unit to power a pair of monitors and maybe a sub
in the future?

this

although im a bit torn (can get discount)- should i just get
a killer receiver for a pair of speakers (with lots of amp
power) and good monitors - or should i buy something for the
future that i can/will connect a tv to.

i dont watch many movies nor do i have a nice (any) tv...so
i think instead of trying to satisfy future purchases - ill
just do it right and dedicate a receiver/monitor speaker
purchase to my computer/music.

JBL speakers, particularly in the consumer/prosumer lines,
are pretty awful. Cheap, bright, shrill. I'm not a fan of
the JBL house sound anyway.

If you want good monitors on the cheap, I'd recommend
something along the lines of Epos (ELS-3), AV123 (x-series
or ELT series, or the Onix series for a little bit extra
cost), or PS Audio (the Quintet or the Duet). You really
want to try to stay away from big-box store brands like JBL,
Polk, Bose, Pioneer, and Onkyo. They sacrifice audio quality
for features which you simply will not need in a
computer/music monitoring situation.

And I would absolutely not trust any of those products to
properly amplify a quality product such as the Sennheiser
HD600s.

i can get the ES30s for $97/pair new.
the discount is unreal - i will be going with them for now.

this isnt for a music monitoring situation.
this is for a PC 2-channel setup for listening.

we are off discussion on headphones, now...just
receiver/bookshelf speakers - but thanks for input

I have Panasonic AV Room Headphones. They're EXCELLENT!
They go for $62, but I got a pair brand new on eBay for $30
+ shipping.

Are you able to listen to them before you buy them?

I'd highly recommend you do so. Contemporary JBL speakers
are really, really bad. I wouldn't even pay $97 for those
ES30s... like so many JBLs before them, they'll sound like
shit, the tweeters will blow within a year, and they will
give you a headache both audibly and financially.

I'd recommend reconsidering.
