yea, since i'm going anyway
i'm kinda nervous about my skill, i practiced pretty hard since i know that i'm going, but that's only a week. i can perform Halasana, Salamba Sarvangasana and Sirsasana comfortably, as asked, just not very long. 3,5 hours of yoga and 1,5 hours pranayama a day..

I'm sure you'll be fine. How much practice do you do in a normal week?
I've heard BKS can be full-on! A serious dude! How do you find your regular teacher?
I wish I was going with you!

well just once a week
my regular teacher is like tough but fair, so to say, i think that's part of the iyengar teaching philosophy because you shouldn't be easy on yourself either
worst that could happen would be i have to do asanas on stage because i'm a good example of things you can do wrong

The "tough but fair" attitude seems to be the "Iyengar Way", and from my experience the more senior the teacher, the tougher they are. By extrapolation, BKS is going to be a monster! :)
They call him the Lion of Pune.... hear him roar!

so my teacher yesterday said he might get pretty pissed if i would go to the front of the room with my meager skills (it's a hall really) and i'd best hide in the back. so i'll do that, at least the first day

He'll come up the back I'm sure......... at the end of the day, it's yoga, so whatever happens, just be in the moment and try not to worry about it. Try to enjoy the opportunity you have to take teachings from one of the great teachers of our time...... this is a great opportunity.......
and don't fuck up! ;)

yea it was good i had fun with the other yogis and yoga is cool it was nice to see the guy. but there was a a lot of to the side explanations, meaning while we weren't doing yoga. and those explanations were pretty much inaudible, mainly because of the reverb in the hall. so we'll have to wait for the dvds to hear what he said, and those will come
moscow was cool too also i'm doing yoga now twice a day and i'm contemplating doing the teachers course, mainly to get more knowledge myself
otherwise mr. iyengar is not buddha, he's just a guy that does yoga. but that's what i've always liked about this form of yoga, the down to earthness.
interview with this other guy that was there that sums up that last sentiment and why i luv iyengar yoga, hehe

Sounds good.
The Iyengar teaching course will hold you in good stead to be an excellent teacher, but it's by no means easy. I'm not sure what the examinations are like where you are , but here they are an ordeal.
Good luck :)

There's some people I practice with that have sat the examination 4 or 5 times before passing, and these people have a very strong asana practice.......... the teaching side of it is highly technical and if they don't feel you fit the mold of an "Iyengi" then you can be in for a hard time.......
I did my teacher trainig through another organisation and it's my intention to go for Iyengar certification but I feel I'm a long way off at the moment.....
But , really, practice is more than just examinations and certifications....... as long as it's a positive force in your life then go for it.

maybe you are ready though. for the training to become a teacher that is, not yet for the exam itself. i don't know how it works in your country though, but like i said, here that training takes three years

It's a bit difficult in the city I'm in. There's no formal course, so I would need to be taken on as an "apprentice" with the senior teacher here, who I happen to practice with at the moment. I've discussed this with him in the past, and he's been very supportive so far, but there hasn't been anything formal put in place. So I just continue to practice under him, and do my own practice, and try to teach as much as I can and just see what happens. I could try to join a course interstate and travel every four weeks to do course work, but thats not really practical with my family and employment.

My other teacher, who I did my teacher training with, is an ex-Iyenger teacher who now follows the teachings of Donna Farhi. I guess you could say it's a more holistic style of practice, less emphasis on form and technique.

@dark: i understand that there's some differences in iyengar yoga teachers as well. and that there's more 'holistic' ones as well (in combination with being iyengar-like physical thouh, i'd imagine). if i'm not mistaking this goes for geeta iyengar for instance
