I've been a member here since 2002-05-03. Thats seven years
ago.

I had to laugh because this morning when i woke up XLT
popped into my head. I thought i would check it out since
its always on the verge of the new version.

Lo and behold I find this thread.

This has to be an ongoing joke with you. For the last 6 of
those 7 years you have been talking about updating this and
the new version that.

For all our patience and donations we are rewarded with:
- v2 extended space (+260 pixels)
- The wolfman
- ads by goooooooogle!!

I mean really... if you would have capitalized on the
popularity of this website at its apex it would have been
far more beneficial to everyone (yourself included)

It just seems like an after thought now. Instead of the busy
little metropolis it once was it more or less is the hole in
the wall tourist attraction in bumfuck Iowa.

You dont communicate with your own community (unless you
have a different account for that) only to pop in with
various rephlex info as if grant himself is giving you
discounts to hype up the product. We on the other hand get
halfassed vague posts about what you may or may not be doing
with this site.

Thats ok because being vauge and cryptic in this community
is the cool thing to do.

Its amazing that people still donate here considering the
only reward to do so is the ability to post pictures

But seriously... just now i almost corrected myself. Its
been a while since i posted here. So i took five minutes and
went through some posts.

#02255365 which was posted Nov last year is actually
the only post that gives any insight at all.

Last before that was 2007 when we were informed that
he only received possibly $30 bucks over a 5 month span
although the server bill was $145 a month and then a couple
of posts down he states...

"there will be one day when I can't afford it any longer
and that would prolly mean Good Bye to Xltronic. Hopefully
donatiions will get a bit better and people will pay
attention to the ads a bit more. "

But what has changed over these few years? I think probably
only the people that have been around here long enough are
the ones that actually care. But why expect to receive
donations of any kind when there is nothing being shown for
"the work" that is going on behind the scenes.

Or perhaps interact with your own community a bit more then
showing up to ban people that talk about skyfarmer.

Perhaps its that all the old regulars have indeed lost
interest in IDM as a whole and moved on. Its a genre thats
been lackluster (LOL) for some time. That and people have
gotten older and that silly antics and tomfoolery that were
a staple of zilty have faded away.

I tired of the music long ago but I always came back because
this internet community had THE best group of people i have
met online. I was guaranteed to laugh my ass off everyday. I
would have updated the site or done whatever it takes to
keep those people here and happy because at the end of the
day this site is nothing without those people that post on
it.

I come back because I know Dan_belch will make me laugh, the
jasons would say something great, elusive would post f42 and
i just might see sylvia's tits.

There is no way to recapture

offline virginpusher from County Clare on 2009-05-16 10:11 [#02291653]

(Comment: Your message was downsized because it was too
big!
Thank you for your message!)

there is no way to recapture that. Part of it is that these
people are adults now. People are getting married and having
babies. Its nuts.

Phobia for this to ever work you need to become more active
in your own community and stand by the deadlines you set up.
Be more open around whats going on around here.

People will respect you for that. I stopped posting here in
part that alot of people i liked seeing were banned. Who
cares if they were offensive or immature. The interaction
between them and other users were great. If it was a slow
music day then there were some guys who would rile everyone
up with something and it would get people posting.

When you remove that element then thats one less thing to
chat about. What brought us here in the first place (IDM) is
dying or dead. Warp saw that long ago when they stepped away
from being an "IDM" only label.

Maybe I dont even know what i am saying.

But overall it wasnt XLT version 8.55 that brought me back
it was people like Dan, the jasons, arf, the alex's, fleet,
meems, elusive... actually i cant name them all. They know
who they are. Thats the reason i have 27,000 posts. It had
nothing to do with the music... although thats why some are
there. It came down to the users. When they start leaving
because nothing is progressing then your community suffers.
My threads used to get buried beyond the fourth page and
there used to be so many active users.

Now... what really do you have? Take it into consideration
phobia. It doesnt matter to me what you do because i'm not
an "addict" anymore. I'm just an old relic that misses the
laughs of the old days

seriously - dnf was announced in 97 so it lasted a little
bit longer for 3d realms to admit that it is dead that for
phobs.

but i think someone can already make a wikipedia entry about
xlt being the site holding the record for delay between
updates.

i donated only once - but i felt it would be for a symbolic
amount of cash for all the great spam, great mixes, great
music and great people (=internet personas) i've
seen/found/heard here during the +4 years i've been here.

all of the positive above doesn't mean i feel Phobia has
been fucking us about for a long time now. endless
anouncements and promises. such a potential for an
electronic music site which might've become legendary - and
spoil it ? fuck.

my vote is NAY or DUNNO

stick around and you'll learn to appreciate the unmoderated
version of xlt. v3 or no v3. i always assumed phobs to be
tongue in cheek bullshitting us anyways. and it has a
certain type of charm of course: the never ending story of
the new xlt. like some twilight zone fantasy story.

anyways lots of lesbian kisses and hugs to you, pandaboy

let say also that the power of music at xltronic goes way
beyond a site's update. personally i donated to keep it
online, physically participating to the physically costs,
its all

if you put it down there might be another place where to
meet of course, but if you don't put it down people could be
lucky enough to keep on picking some neat little things that
happen on this site time to time, time to time and time to
time, that can make one's day, too

keep this real and there will be something to pick for
everyone,

the prophet says.
