Hi xlt.

Everybody's posting music.

Here's mine.

LAZY_BROKEN

The first two tracks are new-ish.

It sounds like unfinished demo's.

"Grathwohl’s compositions often reflect his interests in
language barriers, conventional wisdom, population trends,
urban life, absurdist/dadaist philosophy, and objectivism
theory. His musical interests are a hybrid of three main
musical spectra: musical chance (aleatory), improvisation,
and algorithmic/electronic composition."

Is this a joke? Fancy words, but it doesn't explain why the
ideas in the songs are so wafer thin that Lady Gaga would
wear them as underwear. "Ghastly Fuck Tool" opens up kind of
nice, but then just fades into nothing, and "Perish At
Midnight" has its moments, but its nothing special either.
I'm not impressed. I would never want to listen to this
music again ever (Not saying its horrible, just saying its
horribly bland).

Finally, some criticism.

Seriously, you have no idea how long it's taken to finally
get a response like yours.

If it were my guess, you call it thin due to the lack of
melodic/harmonic variations... in which case, that's
perfectly reasonable. But then again, that's only a guess.

Thanks for at least taking the time and telling me what you
actually think.

The music finally started playing after all the myspace
pictures, videos, gifs, popups and viruses finished
loading.
It made my titties itchy.

Thank YOU! I've been subjected to some good constructive
criticism on this board in my time, and i think you evolve
from it. I have this one guy I know who always give me a
good criticism of what I do musically, and he has helped me
so much even though I hate him a little.
I always get pissed off in the beginning when someone bashes
my little babies, but 90% of the time I realise that the
bashing was justified and I progress.

I would like to elaborate on my gripes since your reaction
was so positive.

Positive things:
Some of the sounds have a distinct timbre, which is
essential if you want to create interesting electronic
music. A good composition is the other thing, but you can do
without (Can anyone here hum an Autechre track?).

I said they sounded like unfinished demos, because there is
no progression in the songs at all. I don’t know if it’s
a conscious attempt to deconstruct music or something like
that, but it doesn’t do anything for me. The songs start
out, and you think “that’s alright I guess”, and then
more and more elements are stripped away and you end up with
an empty feeling inside. The whole ordeal just seems too
elusive and uninspired to be interesting. As a challenge to
yourself, try making a 7 minutes long track with evolving
harmonies and a clear structure.

“Ghastly Fuck Tool” has some promise; perhaps you should
try and make it longer.

Also, the presentation I read on myspace doesn’t really
correspond with the music in any way I can hear. Consider
how you present yourself!

This music ( actually i'd rather call it sound design) would
have a use perhaps not for listening to at home, but i can
imagine it being used for art films/docs

some interesting ideas in there, like those watery sounds
possibly created using a hybrid synth like the green matrix
in reaktor.

I think you could maybe get more of a spacial feel by using
detailed reverb over those synths and create more of a
feeling of depth. cus this could open up and become more
interesting. You could try improving your compression too

that is all

Thanks again for all the insight, guys!

I tried a pretty radically different composition method this
time... it's up on the MySpace page if you want to hear
it...

Hey fishface, this new Drunken Greenhouse one is fantastic.
It's multilayered and well thought out. The crescendo in the
middle is great, and then the sinister ride out... puts me
in the mind of a devil movie like The Omen or Event Horizon.
Keep at it.

How did you make that FLAC? It crashed Winamp, so I decoded
it in FLAC - there are 8 channels - left, right and 6 mono -
and the sample rate is 44103?!

demons run amuck in your fun-box

Sorry about that! I did use the standard FLAC libraries on
my Linux box, but I definitely did fuck something up. Should
have tested it first before I uploaded it!

Anyway, here's the FLAC link, version 2.0!
