it just occured to me that it might be a good idea to
listen to Kanye West's 808 & Heartbreak, just to know how it
sounds like. So i downloaded the album from piratebay, it
took less then a minute. i've then spent less then a minute
listening to it, and about two seconds deleting the files.

(the point is, if there is one, that i didn't want to see
neither the myspace nor youtube websites, and that intenetz
is hilariously fast)

I had the exact same experience with that album.

just imagine you could to that with kanye west the person!
materialize him in less than a minute,
listen to his complaints for less than a minute,
and send him to another dimension in about two seconds...

I remember distinctly waiting an hour or so to download
about 17 seconds of rollercoaster of love video in
quicktime. Also Beautiful people. MTV's old website I think.
That's when Netscape was the thing to use and
hotbot, exite, alta vista, and lycos were col search engines.

Internet was awesome then. Still is awesome but we face new
problems mainly assholes trying to privatize and regulate
it.

been thinking... where is this fad of taking pictures with
cameras heading... i mean until the 90ies almost every dad
was a hobby photographer, and knew how to handle a SLR. Now
everyone has at least one mobile device which is capable of
taking crappy party shots, documenting every single moment
of a life, only to upload tons of them (how much digital
data, in electrons, is a gram btw?) to facebook... the
author of almost any picture could be anyone else, it
wouldn't matter. So maybe... we'll have picture/video
devices soon which don't need to be operated manually
anymore? like google street, but for everyone.... some
microcamera attached to everyone's head,even Kanye West's,
steadily connected to everyone elses head, fart.

I remember taking an hour to download
'aphextwin-kickass_violin_solo.mp3' on my 56k dial up
connection.

those were the days.

i remember the first mp3 I ever downloaded, it was cichli.
the dude who sent it to me on irc said "fuck it, you have
enough." after two megs, which took forever because i was on
a 14.4 modem. up until that time i've only ever heard
low/medium quality wav clips online. i thought it was pure
magic that people were now able to send full high quality
songs through the internet.

I wish I still appreciated having a good internet
connection.

I have 10MB, but this thread has made me realise that I
don't really appreciate it. :(

The novelty has sadly worn off...

Then again, I have always had a pretty good speed of
internet. I feel a bit jaded and spoilt sometimes. This is
one of those times.

look, it's the future: OnLive

You play a current generation game that runs on a computer
thousands of miles away and get the video realtime-streamed
to your PC/Mac in HD. wtf?
i don't believe this will be lagfree though... but give it a
couple of years more, and your computer is nothing more than
a web browser.

good,
consoles cost vast sums of money and die out before
you could buy a decent game actually using the station.
bad,
nothing beats insulting your buddy in a 1on1 battle,
but these days are over for us anyway...
the only thing were still playing against each other
is free online-games now.

its the next logical step in buying information
instead of matter. this saves ressources!!

i totally understand what you mean. even rare stuff seems
available over the net. it took me 15 minutes to find a
subbed, good quality version of meatball machine - a
japanese gore movie.

you can even tell after what google spits out that something
is wrong. when you search for a movie or album the first
three links usually alread contain a link to a rapidshare
file or torrent. a year ago even that was impossible.

the internet is designed to absorb your attention to the
degree that you will allow yourself to be converted into a
battery that powers a reality much more challenging than
this one.

it's easier to download an album than unwrapping the cd
jewel case.

couple of weeks ago there was this cd/vinyl fair, it did not
have a search function, fail!

and just yesterday i borrowed a cd from someone and ripped
it to the computer, even that felt awkward....

hehe, no search function.
youre supposed to find them gems in there
like the needle in the haystack, but sure is fun!
also you never ever make a bargain if the people know
what theyre selling...
