holy shit i love some yo la tengo. there are too many recordings to mention, and too many that i haven't heard. if you've never heard them, or if you have, check out this unreleased demo of "big day coming." it will put a spring in your step. imagine yo la tengo trying on a stereolab jumper with a built in strobe light. lofi and loud.
lazy yo la tengo

Mark me down for some of that shit. I only know two albums 'heart' and 'inside out' to be abbreviative. But I think they're classics.

admittedly i wrote yo la tengo off awhile ago. i thought "i can hear the heart beating as one" (occasionally cited as their best record) was overrated and patchy. maybe it is. i saw them live in 1992 and thought they sucked, although it may have been the distraction of strategizing a way to get completely stoned out of my gourd before my bloody valentine hit the stage.
then i picked up a collection of senescent songs, with its bonus disc, thinking i'd shit a brick in reaction to kevin shields' mix of autumn sweater. the mix is ok, but it was a rejected demo for "big day coming" that changed everthing. and the band doesn't even like it, and they only recorded it at the insistence of a friend.
that friend, my friends, was me.
and now you know "the rest of the story."
not exactly true, but you get my point. this band...this is my kind of band.

i saw them in 1992 supporting seam (or the other way round) they were brilliant so i went out and ordered may i sing with me
which has an incredibly gay sleeve it was a huge let down after the ferocious guitar mayhem of their live performance, but over many years grew and grew and grew to become my second favourite yo la tengo album after electropura.
about 5 or 6 years later my mate nicked it and scratched the shit out of it and warped it so the needle would jump off right off the record halfway through detouring america with horns
