I can't stop searching for new music.... I download shit loads of it everyday...
I listen to shit loads of it everyday, but I now have more music than I could possibly listen to even if I sat down and listened to it constantly 24/7 - and that would only be once through...
I'm so scared of missing some fucking "best tune ever, like in the world ever!" that I keep searching.
please help.

Same, there's nothing you can do about it really. Chances are though, you've probably heard the best shit.

the cause of your suffering is desire. you are on a treadmill, and instead of finding a way off the treadmill, you're trying to find a way to move faster than the treadmill will allow. however, recall that your apparent movement is an illusion; you have been standing still effectively the entire time.
alternately, find a way to quit complaining about the consequences of your overwhelming wealth.

i disagree.
if you have an eclectic music taste, i think it's possible to discover amazing stuff all the time. it all depends on not being "stuck" with a few genres, though. then you'll soon hit a dead end.

there can never be enough - i crave it. i feel the same way that you do advocate, there is too much exciting music to have time to think about any chance of information overload, im voyaging through a constant that is absolutely unstoppable!

I think I am stuck with a few genres though, not really interested in much outside electronic music.

However my raging desire to hear more and more means I have built up a collection of over 20,000 tracks over the last few years.

@plaidzebra - "alternately, find a way to quit complaining about the
consequences of your overwhelming wealth. " wealth? you mean money? I don't really buy music anymore... I stream internet radio, download mixes, buy the odd track / album off Bleep.com, occasionally torrent, but not anything significant
There is more free music (as in given away free) than I can possibly listen to, so why buy it :)

@Advocate - yeah, I'm constantly finding new bands who produce amazing stuff, and each good track or artist only leads me to a bunch of albums they've done and a bunch more similar artists...
not really complaining though, i mean, where would we be without it :)
sniffing glue probably.

I feel you. Not just with music, but with everything. When I first got a computer I didn't sleep for three days, and back then there was just a fraction of whats available online today.
Having a wealth of choices has turned me into an instant gratification whore. I don't give anything a chance to grow on me anymore. I'll download entire discographies and sometimes end up with just one song. I can usually scan through music pretty quickly and know if I'll like it or not. I feel like the Lawnmower Man sometimes, just playing a few seconds then throwing out the CD. I know its an awful thing to do and I will obviously skip past some great songs that need time to break into my soul, but its incredibly efficient. It all but destroyed the album format for me.
I do the same with movies and books. If a movie doesn't hook me in within ten or fifteen minutes, then I stop watching it. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes to make the decision. With books, I'll speed read through the first 50 pages. If it looks decent, I'll start over and read it properly.
Basically I do the online version of channel surfing. Five hundred channels, but there's usually only one or two things worth watching.

that's what forums and internet sites like imdb or animenewsnetwork are for. seriously i catch myself sometimes downloading a whole catalog of some label and then listening to it for a week not finding a single good track.
now i wait for recommendations

yeah, i know what you mean... music has become a lot more disposable... i'll quite happily skip through an artists work and dismiss it with just a few minutes listen.... which is a shame i think.
I remember buying albums years ago and only really get into them a couple of years later. that wouldn't happen now.

don't you worry with the years you develop your tastes depending also on what music does mean to you, expanding and at the same time focusing your attention to certain stuff rather than d/l gigs of stuff you're not really interested to.
