On your rendition of Homemade Polysynth, how did you get
the synth that comes in a little bit later to have that like
vibrato effect, like that pulsing LFO sound?

well..which sound sorry? i think i know which one you mean.
that sawtooth style chime that layers an octave over the
rest of the melody?

i'm looking at it now. it's pretty basic.
subtractor:
polyphony 2 retrig
osc 1: sawtooth (no phase), cent -13
osc 2: sawtooth (no phase), cent -14
osc mix is even
filter 1: bp set quite low (36) with low res (19)
filter 2: lp set to 73 no res (reduce a little of the high)
LFO 1: random square wave, amount quite high (86)
rate is a bit below average which is quite steady pace
(55).
LFO 1 set to effect the osc mix. this makes it pop and move
tone around.
LFO 2 is osc 1,2 vibrato quite high, amount 10.
AMP/FILTER ENV: decay is just above mid (78) release is a
little higher. fiddle with sustain. (amp release should be a
little higher than filter)
there are also velocity settings that make for slight
changes like amp, a little fm, freq env.
amp +14, freq 2 -2, freq env +24, fm +8.
that should be it.
i also used medium room reverb but it would have been better
with small room. also i cut lots of low freq and mid with
eq.
the numbers wont help unless you look at the subtractor but
theyre kind of a guideline. play with it it's quite nice

it would be more interesting with pulse or phase modulated
saws and you use another square random (or whatever you call
it) lfo for pulsewidth modulation. also play with velocity
parameters for subtle variation in whatever soft synth your
using. if you had reason i could upload some patches for you

synthesis

yeah it makes sense now with those LFOs, i just thought that
it sounded good and made me want to try and do that, Reason
4, sounds like trying to learn Corel painter after using
Photoshop for 3 years. I will try it out

i should get ableton and rewire it with reason. reasons
great for most things but sequencing. i just know it's going
to be an arse about cpu usage or something.

the best thing about reason 4 is the thor. really evil
massive thing. you can route things in and out of it at the
back but it also has it's own internal routing system. you
can assign an LFO or ENV to almost any part of itself. loads
of different filter and oscilator types too. it is pretty
masive but usable. and reason 4 has spiders and EVERYTHING

A remix of Home Made Polysynth using reason is
disrespectful.

I miss his anecdotes and lovely face most. :(

Also his general presence. It's true that you don't realise
what you have til you lose it.
