Anyone use renoise?

I used reason for about 9 months, tired of it. Tried
ableton for about a week, was annoying to me. Then I try
renoise tonight, and I'm fucking loving it right off the
bat, and I usually don't take to liking programs this
quick.

Anyone else use it? Just curious how popular it is around
here.

I've never used it before. What is it that you like about
it?

I hate to use the word intuitive, but the way shit works
just makes sense for the way I like to write music I guess.
I always found things in reason and ableton that annoyed
me.

I like to just have everything in front of me so I can
draw/play it in and see where its going. I hated flipping
back and forth between the edit/arrangement views of reason
and ableton.

Btw, can anyone tell me how to get a 2nd vst going in
renoise? having trouble figure that one out....

ha, nevermind my question.... flipped back tot he program
and figured it out.

You should try it out if you like this type of approach. For
instance, in reason, I would just draw in everything in the
grids, and it pissed me off to no end to have to switch back
and forth between the grids for each instrument. Now, its
all compact on one screen.

Is it the ibuprofen that took my headache away? Or is it
renoise?

btw heres stuff of mine in reason if your interested.

bye bye reason, muhahahhaha

I'll try it out, if just to check out the interface. it
sounds useful.

ah! back in my youth

ya man, do yourself a favor try out renoise. I'm loving this
shit. Finally i feel completely at home with a program. Feel
like I'm playing music again.

yeah, I haven't read anything from the series in years. My
collection is sitting in my closet gathering dust, waiting
for the day that I might begin to reread it.

Anyway, it seems like you've found your program, have fun
with it!

Thanks man. Btw, what was your favorite redwall book? Mine
was "redwall", it was the first one I read out of the
series. I always thought Orlando was a total badass, and I
always remember the snake asmodeousssss, I always thought
that was the coolest villain back in the day.

They're all good so it's hard to pick, but probably The
Bellmaker, Salamandastron, Pearls of Lutra, and the Long
Patrol... honestly I love them all.

Orlando the Axe! he was a badass, indeed.

you'll go back to reason. renoise is fun for a short while
before you get bored of having to do everything tracker
style.

I tried this and it is a gay dog dick if its what I'm
remembering. Modplug tracker is free and awesome + the shit
+ cheesy. Merely navigating the rows and columns was a bitch
and half for me with renoise. Plus it costs money and has
crappy piracy stuff where they bind your name to the
software so if you share it, the copies have your traceable
name or something.

I think its really good value for money, there's a lot more
to it than meets the eye as well. You can even just use it
as a sampler - the sample editor is well laid out and
creating/editing/modding samples is simple.

ya for 50 euros its a ridiculously good deal. For me its
much better than ableton or reason, I like renoise because
it just cuts through all the bullshit. Its just straight up.
No stupid shit like going from grid to grid to do shit, or
using some lame ass sequencer, then needing to resequence it
in the arrangement section.

Thats my take on it all anyway...... and not to mention, its
also great for what exaph said.

I tried it for a bit, but gave up in the end. I'm not a big
fan of trackers.

I guess im a bit out of the loop. I don't understand why its
called a tracker, it essentially does exactly what an
ableton or reason does, but cuts out all the unnecessary
bullshit.

do your homework

i like renoise, but i still have a soft spot for reason.
have a look at buzz machines, you might like that too and
its free, but a bit unstable.

i remember using protracker and then digibooster like 10
years ago. rns is the same thing, only extra thing are the
vst and dx plugs you can use in it, and that makes it very
good.

well the stuff that i think is unnecessary bullshit are
things you might not think are unnecessary bullshit. Just a
matter of opinion. Not worth explaining, im not going to
bother you with my peevs. Everyone's got their program that
they like, as well as the instruments they like (lute),
etc.
