OK. So maybe someone can fill me in. Why is it called Dub Step? When did this happen? Why can't people just call it Dub? Is it more danceable dub? Is that why the step is placed after it? I really hate this term, so if someone can give me a good enough reason for the "step" addition, maybe I'll be able to accept it more.

it's a very distant relative of dub. it's not dub really at all. maybe you couldn't have it without dub or two step. the illusion of movement within the rabbit hole elicits the desire to change the superficial details. but who knows why any name sticks?

It's part of the 'Nuum' in journalistic circles. It's a continuum of Dub aesthetics with a bit of music made at double speed.

Dubstep is a genre of electronic music that has its roots in London's early 2000s UK garage scene. The name of the genre was coined by Ammunition Promotions[citation needed]. Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its dark mood, sparse rhythms, and emphasis on bass.

OK great. I've been into dubstep all this time and didn't call it that. I just call it dark-ass experimental(the experimental portion mostly pertaining to rhythm, quick snares and deep deep basses that shake the earth. Sweet.

i'd like to call dubstep something else, like mind-fuck dub.... something along the lines where trip-hop became dub, mixed with all these crack whore "IDM" cliches, called the braindance squad
