if your using standard defrag on xp and have lots of drives
and cant be bothered to defrag one at a time I worked out a
little trick to defrag em all in one go ( so you can go to
sleep and it be done by the morning)

make a txt file

type the following depending on how many drives you have:
-----------------------------------------------
defrag c:-f
defrag d:-f
defrag e:-f
defrag f:-f
defrag g:-f ( and so on and so on)

shutdown -s -f -m \\"ur computer name" -t 5

-----------------------------------------------

then save but not as a .txt , save as a .bat instead.

then when you double click the file the computer defrags all
your drives then shuts down after 5 secs.

:)

I had to google to figure out how to turn off this one
annoying microsoft popup window that appears when a program
crashes (happens all the time in python) that asks if I want
to report the problem to microsoft. Now it never appears
(had to go to the registry and change a 1 to a 0 or
something complicated).

I've only used a batch file once for a doom2 recording.

i know the thing you mean !

just incase you don't know already and for others if
interested:

some times crashes and poor performance are caused by a poor
tuned bios. a way to find out if your bios is tuned o.k

find out the max temp for your cpu

download coretemp
" " prime 95

run core temp then run prime 95 , make sure the temps do
not exceed the max recomended whilst they run.

if prime95 runs for more than an hour you have a pretty well
set up bios, if it crashes after a few minutes or even
seconds you need to tweak the volts in the bios a little bit
up or down. if the temps go above your max recomended turn
off prime95 immediately and fix improve the cooling.

worth knowing, but y need patients to do this type of
sh*izen.

:p

A good tip and trick for "ur IDM" is to not use shitty
operating systems like Windows XP and Mac OSX.

Sorry my friend, but using Linux is not elitist by any
conventional means. Paying for your software is the most
elitist think you could possibly do...

Linux attracts a strange mix of professionals who use it for
what it's good at and big babies who use it to compensate
for lifestyle deficiencies. I leave it to the reader to
hazard a guess at which we're seeing in this thread.

I like linux and use it almost exclusively, however it isn't
always possible to use it for everything.
Freqy has kindly posted up something which may be useful for
people using XP for whatever reason that may be.

Sometimes I get annoyed by Freqy's posts, but here he has
shown what an asset to the community he is. I don't think
you should be critical because he uses a "shitty operating
system".

Your argument has numerous flaws. Semantically, it depends
upon how you define an operating system. OSX is based on
BSD, and if you have any sense, you wouldn't go around
bashing BSD for being "shitty". Don't be fooled by the
snazzy graphics layer on top.

Secondly, an operating system is just a tool. Use the most
appropriate tool for the job. I prefer to use linux when I
can, but this is not always possible, so I end up using
"shitty" XP. Clearly XP is not "shitty" here because it
allows me to do what I need to do, whereas linux cannot.

By all means mock apple fanboys for worshipping overpriced
commercial off the shelf parts in pastel boxes with sanded
corners and massive markups. Mock windows for whatever
reason you want, but don't mock helpful advice.

Using linux isn't elitist, but going around implying you are
superior because you use it is being elitist.

You have an odd conception of what makes something good/bad.
Just because you use something doesn't mean it's good.
Whatever you're using XP for, it's probably related to the
fact that Microsoft owns 85% of the consumer operating
system market and some software you're trying to use isn't
natively available on Linux. So, now something is good or
bad due to how many users it has? If we applied that concept
to electronic music, then we'd be fans of some of the worst
music ever made in the last 20 years!

OSX is awful because it sheds any of the positive aspects of
BSD, while also putting one of the most bloated and
unintuitive interfaces possible sloppily on top of it.

Windows is even worse because not only is the interface
terrible, but its kernel streaming and its idiotic
"registry" system make it extremely inefficient and
unintuitive to programmers.

I never implied I was better than anybody. You implied that.

So linux is good because I can't use it for my purposes and
XP is bad because it lets me do what I want to. Hmmm.

I didn't say that at all. What kind of fucked up logic is
that?

I quote myself:

Windows is even worse because not only is the interface
terrible, but its kernel streaming and its idiotic
"registry" system make it extremely inefficient and
unintuitive to programmers.

How does that even come close to what you just spouted out?

"You have an odd conception of what makes something

Ultimately a computer is just a tool. For my particular
application, I could not use linux. I would have preferred
to and did indeed try to. I ended up using XP.

XP got the job done, so it is good.

Also, OSX and XP allow one to argue on the internets, so
clearly they're not all bad :)
