"Punk rock" sucks

Anyone here listen to "punk rock?" If so, why? It's
terrible. How can anyone tolerate that shit? I can't think
of anything more disturbing than the fact that people could
actually listen to such trash. I'd rather listen to Pepsi
Commercial musicians than anything like Blink 182 or the
Ramones or whomever else it's cool to like.

Hey man 1st off.. Blink 182 is NOT punk.
#2 Your opinion is greatly appreciated.
#3 Expand your horizons.
Punk is an aquired taste, just as any other genre of music.
Listen to some good REAL punk rock and you may change your
mind.

I hate punk, even the classic or ''real'' punk that ISN'T
pop-punk. But I won't say it's SHIT... I just hate it. Has
nothing to appeal to me, seems mindless to me.

I listen to a wide variety of music, none of it punk.
It's all terrible. I enjoy the irony that "punk rockers"
hate country music (as do I) but they complain that country
sounds all the same, and so does "punk."
This is not a "are blink 182 punk" debate, it's just that
anything considered punk or even remotely punk is terrible.
I like things that take ability and thought to conceive--not
just a guitar, bass, drums, and scatter-brained excuses for
lyrics.

Yah, Pepsi Commercial musicians like Britney Spears. I
mean, what the hell--right? Blink 182 are essentially just
Britney Spears for a teenage boy demographic.

I don't care about playing music. I care about writing it.
Musicians tend to get locked into things that are possible
for human musicians to do, and if they have a great idea
that they just can't accomplish with conventional musicians,
it often gets pitched. That's a shame, frankly.

It's not that hard. I've played drums & perc. for 9 years.
It's more of a stamina thing, rather than a talent type of
thing. Anyways, I don't like punk at all.

And if you have ever been exposed to any good punk rock..
you would notice that the bass player dont quit and plays
difficult chords really fast. Why dont you take 10 min out
of your life and just listent to something.. then bash it..
dont go and tell me oh i heard a blink song.. yea well
blink is SHIT. imo

There is more to punk rock than there is to fucking rap.
Thats for damn sure.

I hate listening to punk. any kind of punk - pseudo-punk,
real "classic" punk, etc. doesn't do anything for me. just
loud noise to me. nothing interesting, musical, melodic, or
emotional to it. but that's just my opinion.

these bands you mention did have followings before they
"made it big". you don't think that if RDJ, []pusher, BoC
and etc. "made it big" they would attract an 'obnoxious
teenage thug' crowd? don't be naive.

Right, xlr. I like things that require the musician to
think about on a deeper level than two minute parts for
three instruments for a handful of songs, twelve cheesy
lyrics and some crappy cover art and then calling it a
record.
I don't listen to only Aphex Twin and crazy sorts of
electronic things, though. I also love things not as odd:
The Beatles, Tori Amos, The Cure, etc.

man i make electronic music and im in a punk band with aron
accually and although i have made a bunch of electronic
songs, i have yet to wright a punk song that i can stick
with, you pick up a fucking guitar and try to wright shit
like that, and i play fucking bass man , and i halft to
sing, it's no walk in the park.
man i might regret this laiter but it's the stupid people
like you who are all about stereo types who ruen music, i
think of punk rock just like idm music, fast , hardcore and
full of additude, you need to think outside the box and try
to see the good in the music, and that goes for all music,
if you look at punk and think it's loud trashey mess of
crap, then ofcourse you will come out with a bad idea

break down the walls to just understand what it takes to
create any type of GOOD music.

aron,

i can't do ska either

i think all types of music have their place and purpose.
although I was never into punk although I was into hardcore
which is of course closely related to it. the hardcore
bands I was into mainly existed to spread a message while
maintaining some sort of attitude. birthright-vegan s8edge,
focused-christian, 108 krishna, mouthpiece-old school
s8edge, endpoint-emo, blood for blood-tough guy stuff,
integrity-holy terror church...so many different types of
people in the hardcore scene. it was always nice to go
somewhere and see a kid wearing a hardcore or straight-edge
shirt and be able to have that connection before even
speaking to each other. although over the years I have
slowly stopped buying hardcore-punk albums I still
understand the place it has in the music scene. if you've
ever been to hardcore show seeing someone climb up on top of
a bunch of people reaching for the mic to sing along with
the singer then I guess it would be easier to understand
that the bands that play(most anyway) hardcore and punk
aren't looking to play complicted structured songs like yes
or king crimson played in the 70's or the muli-layered songs
that many of the idm artists put out. of course that is not
to say that there haven't been bands to come out of the
hardcore scene that played complicted music-I live for
Bloodlet! hope that made sense-its late here

I don't have punk music in my collection, however my
understanding has always been that punk music is/was less
about the technical musicality and more about the attitude
and rebelious concepts and social scene that goes along with
it. My thought is that punk music is more of an aspect of
some social culture. One that I am not very aware of so
I'll shut up now.

Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come

one of the best albums ever made in my opinion. not all
would call it punk. but still.

Darth Manchu - have you heard Dennis Lyxzen's (refused
vocalist) new rock band, The (International) Noise
Conspiracy? It rocks, but not as much as the late Refused.

and however said that bad religion is a REAL punk band: NO!

"this is not a punk rock song, this is just shit that plays

how old are you guys? sure, you can laugh at the posers and
people who get way into dressing up for the scene, but
"punk" rock and or "garage" rock are the basics of rock.
thats like dismissing all dance music or house music as
total stupid shit, but then claiming to like RDJ songs that
are clearly influenced by house... oh wait, guys do that
here too. and not to start on the guys who dismiss all
"rap"...

Let me clear this up: I don't care what "punk" is, I hate
it. I've heard a God's plenty of it and it makes me sick to
my stomach. It all sounds incredibly similar. If there's a
genre of music about getting stoned, vandalizing things,
arguing with cops, and engaging in general moronic
activities, then I want no part of it. I only like things
with good music and/or good lyrics and vocals. I'd listen
to punk if I heard anything with decent lyrics. Even if I
heard something with lyrics I wouldn't be ashamed to have
written, maybe I'd lighten up. Until then, you guys go
skateboard about and learn how to spell and form sentences.
Oh, yah, and cops are pigs, "dude."

Consider the philisophical difference between these two
statements:

1. I don't like the way this particular style of music
sounds. I find it very unpleasant and terrible. I choose to
avoid it.

2. This particular style of music sucks. It is bad. It is
stupid. This style of music doesn't deserve recognition. I
dislike the people who find enjoyment in this style of
music.
