..big pain in the ass. Who are these fuckers anyway? What
makes their opinions hover over others? Is it Seniority?
Have they been listening to the latest and greatest since
they were sperm specs? The sad thing is that people clench
to these reviews and base all of their dishonest taste
around these PFM yuck-faces. Gross yo

lol, I'd watch it. :D

getting back on topic, I've been to pitchfork a few times in
the past but never made a habit of going there. I'd rather
listen to samples and make up my own mind than go solely by
"professional" reviews.

Excellent, that's the way to be. I will give credit to PFM
for giving a raving review for RDJ album, but that was in
'96 so who knows what they'd be thinking of it now...fucking
fucks

i visit pitchforkmedia daily, but i almost never read their
reviews, and i don't care about the scores. i just read the
news section to keep updated on new releases and such.

everything other than bad hip hop like this.

You're quite right. At the end of the day it is just an
opinion. An opinion you don't have to agree with and an
opinion you don't have to read.

I like pitchfork, and even if I don't agree with their
reviews I am still grateful to be informed of the
artist/band in the first place ...by listening to the
artists/groups Myspace or Juno samples I get to make my own
opinion. I make an effort to have a quick listen to samples
of the stuff they've slated too. Same as with Xltronic. When
people recommend or slate stuff here I'll still check it out
which I wouldn't have done if the artist(s) hadn't been
mentioned in the first place.

Vice is similar and I like Vice too. If it wasn't for Vice
UK I'd never of heard of stuff like Legowelt and Alden
Tyrell and shit.

I listen to the stuff that's been panned out of curiosity.

The review staff at Pitchfork is populated with bullshit
artists and egoists who are often genuinely knowledgeable
about the music they review. They project themselves as
the kind of people who use their tastes in music to bolster
their own self-images, and for this reason they attract a
shallow, fashion-obsessed group of people.

They've written a number of the worst reviews I've ever
read. Reviews that pat themselves on the back for having
been into this or that band in high school (Poster
Children). Reviews that call an album a rip-off of a
seminal artist because that seminal artist was briefly
sampled in homage in one track even though the whole
recording bears no resemblance to the artist sampled (Tomita
sampled in a Casino Versus Japan track). Reviews that
praise 2nd rate has-beens because of a perceived
significance to a "scene" (Screeching Weasel b-sides etc
comp). Reviews that assume a pretentious literary stance or
gimmick (Autechre) and reviews that have no substance but
just attempt to mock (Mum and Jet).

Despite the obnoxious, adolescent knowitallism, however, the
site is useful for music news. And at least their tastes
are eclectic. It can be a useful and interesting resource
for new music, or interesting/obscure reissues.

And one day, I will swear off giving my opinion on the
internet. Can't come soon enough...
